Is a detection-proof ad blocker theoretically possible?
  • The major problem with ads isn't that they are a visual and audible nightmare (although that IS a problem), it's that they can affect performance and are vectors for malware.

Is ice cream becoming too soft?
  • Before anyone suggests it's my freezer, I've kept it relatively uncluttered and everything else stays frozen just fine. I also make sure not to purchase those tubs of "Frozen Dairy Dessert". What happened? Is this some cost cutting measure or are customer's preferences really going to extremely soft textures?

It's both. Commercial ice cream is either overchurned to add more air, making it lighter and softer, or uses a lot of additives. You have to buy "premium" brands to get real ice cream, or get it from a local ice cream place.

It also sounds like your freezer is not cold enough. I know because I'm dealing with a similar issue. My freezer is cold enough to keep everything frozen, except ice cream. My freezer was only getting down to 20°F which is cold enough for most things, but ice cream needs 0°F to stay frozen/hard. It's time to buy a new freezer.

X caught blocking links to NPR, claiming the news site may be 'unsafe'
  • Blocking access during an election year to a well respected and accurate news outlet that has never been known to be "unsafe" seems like election interference to me.

Google’s head of Pixel 9 design won’t apologize for its big, beautiful camera bump
  • So this is the idiot we have to blame for the ugly and annoying camera bump. Sad that it seems like there is no going back to a phone with a good design. Camera bumps are awful and not worth the tradeoffs.

One and done: Michael Phelps calls for a lifetime ban for anyone who's caught doping
  • Not only should they get a lifetime ban, but every athlete should be tested 100% of the time. There is no reason why something as huge and prestigious as the Olympics, with the kind of money it brings in, should not be doing this.

Elden Ring Player to Sue FromSoftware Over High Game Difficulty
  • People can sue for whatever reason they want, but that doesn't mean a court will entertain it. I'm sure whatever judge this is put in front of will dismiss it immediately.

As for the difficulty discussion. Not all games are made for all players, and that's OK. If it's too hard for you, play sometime else. Soulsborne games do not need difficulty settings, and I'm glad they don't.

does anyone use a modern screen-foldable phone as their regular phone?
  • The only time I've ever seen a folding smartphone in person it had a huge, extremely noticeable crease across the screen. The phone was otherwise in good shape from what I could tell.

When foldable screens first came out I thought to myself, "wow that's pretty neat, but what will it look like after several months/years of typical usage? It'll probably have a crease noticeable enough that I would never want to use one." Turns out I wasn't too far off. No thanks, I'll stick with a regular screen.

Is there a series showing how we got rocks to think?
  • Hidden Figures. Not quite what you want, but pretty close. The Imitation Game is also worth a watch.

edit: Sorry. I misunderstood your question. It's late and I read it as you asking for movies about early computing, not actually explanatory videos.
