Steve Bannon Joins War Against Elon Musk as MAGA Implodes
  • Their success was that they combined their forces to win the election, but each of those grifters have different goals and many of them are incompatible.

I definitively don't support whatever Banon is after, but I welcome the infighting.

They will still inflict damage to the US, but hopefully the infighting will make it much harder to consolidate their power and turn US into fascist state.

Do you want Artificial Intelligence to be invented?
  • No, at least not during this period. If it was invented right now, or is guaranteed to be only controlled by oligarchs and ruin life of everyone else.

‘Exhausted’ Americans are tuning out politics, according to TV ratings and new poll
  • It still mattered. Republicans won on federal level (mainly due to a successful social media campaign) but there were also some good wins for Democrats on local levels.

Highly recommend "On Tyranny" book by Timothy Snyder.

‘Exhausted’ Americans are tuning out politics, according to TV ratings and new poll
  • I don't know about others, but I hope maybe it is similar with others.

I stopped watching 24/7 channels, I no longer trust CNN. Washington Post and LA Times showed their colors during the election, showing exactly that the owners purchased them to manipulate readers' opinion.

I since then set up recurring donations to ProPublica, local NPR station, I also found a local news paper that still seems to do local journalism. The rest I intend to rely on Lemmy and Reddit.

I stopped caring what trump is saying (he always lies) and instead intend to care about what he does. There are things that are out of my control, but intend to support any way I can politicians, judges, public employees and others that will fight him. And when it comes time to protest I intend to do my part.

I just don't want to waste my energy on pointless BS that 24/7 news media was doing 2017-2020. If trump says he intends to take over Greenland why should I rile up about it and how can I change anything. It is likely a BS anyway to tire us up.

Also I highly recommend On Freedom: Twenty Lessons From the Twentieth Century by Timothy Snyder. This book was published in 2017 when he started his first term and outlines what things we should watch for and not let him do if we still want to have a democracy.

  • No surprise, the 24/7 news is purposefully is exhausting and most things they talk about are not worth paying attention to.

Instead we should ignore things he is saying and act on things that he actually does and never obey in advance.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. wants to ban drug ads on TV. It wouldn’t be easy - West Hawaii Today
  • Acetylsalicylic acid is Aspirin, which normally is sold without prescription.

With the rest of the world OTC medication is still advertised, in US though they also advertise medicine that you need your doctor to prescribe.

  • He would be fired by trump before this would happen. The reason it is still allowed is because of interest money and this administration is all about money. The only way I would see such ban happening would be banning those ads on TV while enabling them on social media.

    Insomnia
  • For sleep apnea for example which only happens when you are asleep they only need you to be asleep and then they monitor when it happens then adjust air pressure etc and see if that helps.

Their equipment is much more precise than for example CPAP machine, so they get more exact data.

How do you be aware of major issues in the world and locally without becoming deeply depressed and cynical?
  • You raised a very good point that I did not realize until now. In the past 8 years we actually stopped talking about politics to others, because it became so polarizing.

We absolutely need to talk about politics if we want to keep democracy. Hardliners likely won't be converted, but at least, as you said, we should talk to like minded people.

Also, there's indeed no point to worry about things outside of our control, and worry about things we can affect. Threat the things that happen, that we can't control more as an obstacle that we have to deal with. Also support people who might have control and fight (governors, congress people, lawyers, judges, government employees, etc) so they know that aren't doing it for nothing.
