Weather in New York City - December to January
  • I find it similar to Scotland in many ways. It’s bloody cold and windy. Always reminds me of that Fairytale of New York song. The lyrics go “the wind blows right through you, it’s no place for the old”.

Wool layers work best. A long wool coat is perfect, if you have one. Puffer jackets are too bulky and sweaty if you take the train or the bus. You definitely need boots, but make sure they’re warm, waterproof and comfortable. You’ll be walking a lot.

    Have fun!

    How Streaming Destroyed TV
  • Ads "destroyed" TV. Streaming only became popular because it meant no fucking ads. Now ads are destroying streaming. Circle of capitalist life, I suppose.

what hardware should I buy for storage purposes? what brands?
  • WD/SanDisk have completely gone to shit. I’d go with Seagate. I have a bunch of IronWolf Pro drives that have been fast and reliable.

Ollie Bearman is Haas Race Suit, he will be driving VF-24 in FP1 today
  • Ugh. I’m glad he’s getting some time in a car, but he’s too talented to be wasted at Haas. Hopefully he gets picked up by decent team when the time comes.

    Thoughts on VPN providers?
  • They own some of their servers and rent others. From their FAQ:

All of our VPN servers are encrypted and are either owned by us or dedicated servers that we rent.

    • Our rented servers are all dedicated, meaning they are not shared with anyone else. We do not use virtual servers.
    • With the servers that we own, we have physical control over these, which means they tend to be faster and more secure.

When connecting, you can filter to only show owned servers.

Switched to Linux and I think I'm going back to Windows.
  • I agree with the sentiment, but if Mint and Pop needed too much tinkering for OP, a hackintosh out of his Nvidia laptop would be out of the question, I assume.

Martin Brundle feels like he's always one interview away from the end of his career
  • I can’t really stand Brundle or Crofty anymore, especially when Jacques, Palmer and DC are so incredibly good. But I have to admit that some of his grid walk moments are absolutely brilliant.

  • Don’t worry! They’ll keep voting against any and all environmental protection measures and against their own interests. And when the leopard eats their faces, they’ll just blame the libs, immigrants, China or whatever the en vogue boogeyman is at the time. And everything will be right as rain.
