Where do you get your tea?
  • 99% of what I drink is Ceylon and my supplier is my local middle eastern stores. Pick up pound of loose leaves every now and then, brand varies.

What is your favorite mythological figure (of ancient religions only)?
  • Not as much reading but I'm taking much of my cues regarding mythology from Red over at Overly Sarcastic Productions (https://www.youtube.com/@OverlySarcasticProductions).

    Two related videos
    Wrath of Demeter https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nhhANZKerug
    Hades and Persephone https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ac5ksZTvZN8

What I especially like about their content is that there is plenty of source critique. Things are seldom presented as "this is the exact truth". Mentioned in the video about Hades and Persephone is "we don't know the original myth" which I find telling of much of their mythology work.

What is your favorite mythological figure (of ancient religions only)?
  • Demeter is up there.

Her baby father (Zeus), aka the big douchebag, married away her daughter Persephone to his brother Hades. Patriarchy does what patriarchy does. The brothers were aware neither Persephone nor Demeter would approve of the deal so Hades had to kidnap Persephone and force the deal upon her.

So Persephone were abducted and her mother were beyond herself with worry about her absence. Once Demeter learnt about the deal she threw the hissy fit that all hissy fits are measured against. Plants stopped growing, livestock stopped giving birth and the world soon was in a cataclysmic state. Behold a mother's justified wrath and tremble.

Douchebag-in-chief was forced to negotiate but wouldn't anull the whole deal. Only that Persephone would spend half her time with her mother (spring, summer) and the other half with the husband forced upon her (autumn, winter).

How much do y'all spend on coffee a month?
  • For me about 10€. At work I have free "coffee" and at home I alternate coffee and tea. For the coffee I've found a nice 500g bag of whole brand for 8€ that is my go to.

"Antique" 2€ grinder bought well over a decade ago and french pressing. No expensive equipment.

What are you looking forward to this week?
  • I've got a new camping hammock that I want to go out and try out. With a bit of rain during the week the fire danger will drop because a little coze fire is awesome. Not sure how much it will drop but at least it will drop enough for the camping stove. I need my fresh coffee damn you.

And yes we have had a fire ban since last week. Probably lifted now after a good rainy day.

Add this to your next human's repertoire
  • I spent thirteen years growing bonsai, fifteen pining over Loravindrel. That brought me into my eight year long emo-goth period which produced poetry I've since fed to the flames. For sixteen seasons after that I meditaed under a plum tree and swept the eight hundred and seventy two dozen and five stars. Six years I practiced the letter œ to master the uhm. Fifty seven years I spent in the arms of Madeleine and our oldest grandchild is about your age. And the last three seasons I've been chasing the south-western gale that robbed her from me decades too early.

The "correct" way to eat cereal with milk
  • Swede yes. Fil is our national variant of soured milk. Runnier than yoghurt but still creamy, about same fat content as milk.

The "correct" way to eat cereal with milk
  • Imma fight y'all.

No milk. Use fil (sour milk), yoghurt or something similar. Put cereal on top, no mixing. The cereal touching the "liquid" get soggy while the rest stays crisp giving the best texture heterogeneity. Berries are awesome, frozen a super convenient alternative. If using frozen mix these with dairy before adding cereal.

Your fermented dairy of choice brings a nice crispy and fresh acidity to the meal. And if it (still) have an active bacterial culture it is super good for your gut.

    Muesli is best cereal.

    Honey only approved sweetener.

Are Chainless Belt Gears The Future of Bicycle Drivetrains?
  • Wet lubes are notorious for attracting grime. Lube up, let rest overnight, wipe off excess day after and that grime still builds up quickly. And since the grime is stuck in the lube just washing it off isn't enough. Requires a good cleaning and then new lube.

Wax is a great option but all wax solutions I've encountered requires a very clean drivetrail. No oils, lubes, grease etc or the wax won't stick. More prep work but so worth it in the end.

I would love to go belt drive and there are high end internal hubs that offers similar range to 12spd mtb gears. Tech is there, tech is working but cost is still too high for me. More likely I'll go belt drive when (if) I get me a touring/bike packing bike.

That said this mechanical solution looks too engineered to get wide adaptation. 2-3spd gear hubs are tried and tested. That said again this combined with a moderatley priced 6-8spd hub could be cool. Cool in a frankenbike kind of way.

Still. Cool tech demo/proof of concept.

  • A fun band. Lots of skin, lots of sexy bodies. And then there is "the Voice of the Gods" whose magnificence overshadows all. On the vocal side the band is well wrought and the three vocalists plays off eachother almost like a classic boy band from the late 90's.

While I do love Eluveite I cannot listen to them for longer periods of time. Just so full of everything and then some. It gets discordant tiring. Still good in a mix.

Let's stretch my theme for the evening. Just a duo between the chaotic maniacs of Alestorm and Patty Gurdy. Well produced and everything fits well together. Very good drinking music.

Ahhhh Alissa White-Gluz, in my opinion the queen of the harsh melodic death metal. Growls but the higher pitches does come through. Can listen to Arch Enemy for long periods without getting fatigued, that does say something.

    0

Let's take the vocals a bit harsher. Still clear by metal standards but I find Noora Louhimo's vocal more in line with the rest. Much less of a contrast compared to (for example) Nightwish.

    0

Nightwish featuring Tarja. It is nice to listen to the "peak" of their vocalists. Her voice does fit the band's sound. It is all about the contrasts. And you can hear her (by then) classical training.

    2

Old Nightwish. According to Spotify their most played track.

It will. I am sure of it.

Hiking and camping season started for me today. Walked part of Skåneleden (Scania trail network, southern Sweden). Part of the trail along the creek in bad condition, had to climb over and under hallen trees and bushes. All while on loose footing with the creek below. Got to the campsite and got it all for myself. Nice!

As for firewood I would have had to notify the trail managers to have some ready for me. Counted on there being some already but no luck. So out into the woods and gather up deadwood.

Now darkness have fallen. It is half past eight. Time to burn!

Short: I am looking for (foss) recommendations for an app that lets me program various time intervals and then does some notification when they are up.

So last November when the after work cycling season froze up I finally went to the gym, got me a membership at the one with the most group activities/classes(?) because I like committing to a schedule and to be told what to do. Also the group energy does help me pushing. But I started looking at the quite well equipped gym and somehow I got kettlebells in my youtube recommendations. And then other strange stuff like EMOM and AMRAP.

And the gym have no good clocks...

So when (pretty much always) I want to do some AMRAP (conditioning?) I have to rely on my clock. But its timing programming is really limited, essentially just active/rest. So I need something more robust and after a cursory look at apps I have found nothing. I NEED recommendations.

Example: I want to program a AMRAP session of 1 minute active, 15 seconds reset to next move(?). Do that for 5 cycles. Then a 2 minute break. And start from the bottom. Just an example.

Cannot leave y'all without some Månegarm and some old tales

    > "Ett sista farväl (a final farewell) is based on Völsungasagan (Völsunga saga) and the love story between Helge Hundigsbane and his wife Sigrun. Helge is assassinated by Odin's lent spear and travels to Valhalla, but for one single night he returns to his tomb and the realm of the living. Bloody, and with frost in his hair, he meets his wife and they spend one last night together. At dawn Helge must return to Valhalla and once again leave Sigrun who a short time thereafter dies of grief and sorrow.
