Wabtec workers, day 23 on strike against a company that refuses to cover workers' basic needs (Photo credit: "UE Members 506" FB)
  • Take this in the friendly way it's offered: provide more information, the brief summary at that link is way too sparse for me to start slinging my own hard-earned money at. You've got a friendly audience here (I guess, on the whole), but nobody gives handouts unquestioningly. Publicising is great, but only if you provide proof and details. Good luck!

Are there really so few car enthusiasts on this site? This sub seems to have such little traffic. What gives?
  • I love cars, especially the old restored ones, or reading about people tinkering and troubleshooting. But I subscribe to fuckcars because I fucken hate literal vans being used in my city and clogging up the streets designed for less and smaller traffic. Those Chelsea tractors, as they call them in the UK can fuck right off. Fine em, tax em, whatever you need to do, sabotage their tyres, whatever. Fuck em.

  • Bit harsh your opinion touched a nerve apparently to get downvoted. I think you expressed yourself politely and sincerely and you may also be right. Reddit had years to cultivate subs by and for people who are not terminally online, and those are the people who will be slowest to adopt complicated fediverse tech.

  • Yes, I downloaded something recommended because I was curious and genuinely could not make heads or tails of what I was looking at. I've got about 4 pis and 80tb of storage kicking around, for context. Just noped out after a couple days

  • There was some bad blood between the Verstappen's and the Sainz's, wasn't there? From back in the Toro Rosso days, when the Sainz camp engaged in some pretty heavy politicking, from what I heard.

  • It's insane seeing someone pop up to the very top of the column, and then just watch their name get relentlessly pushed down as driver after driver gets their fast lap in. Gripping stuff.

Reddit risks losing its identity in pursuit of profits
  • The narratives you mention in your last para are completely true, that's what annoys me, IF they had engaged in good faith with users. As it is, it's like a shopping centre that's been free to enter saying "right, it's now €100 to enter and any underwear shops are closed to you unless you wear our uniform."

Just completely crazy prices for a poor service. No shit that's unworkable. Just be honest and say you want to bring those users in-house, just fucking say that rather than trying to gaslight everyone into believing that all these competent developers are all unreasonable arseholes who are screwing you, a multi-billion-dollar corporation over.

  • Do they not have to say what percentage is actually meat? Where I live (not UK), if I look at, say, ham slices, the ingredients list will say something like "meat (85%)" and then water, and salt and other things. Cheap meat is only about 55-60% meat. Fancy packages are like 92% or 95%. I'm not exaggerating even slightly. I bought ham yesterday and settled on the 85%.

Edit: I checked beef and chicken-turkey mince in my fridge. 82% and 92% (77% chicken and 15% turkey).

  • Piastri is having a decent season, don't you think? He's limited by the McLaren being a bad car, but he's not a million miles from Norris in the same car. Hopefully people are noticing that and he can move on in a few years.

  • You've got a point, there's some danger here, but I would have zero sympathy if someone ignored the fact that sarcasm isn't communicated well in text.

I don't know, I think a thumbs up is clear acceptance tbh.

  • My brother and I would like to have some sort of storage space in each others' systems as an offsite backup thing. Ideally, I'd be able to allocate him 2GB of space that he can drop files in (e.g. a Veracrypt container, perhaps a keepass database, not media files). I don't want him to be able to access anything else on my network, like my own computers when they're switched on.

Is Nextcloud a solution? I'd like a sort of Dropbox-equivalent solution where I can just open up a bit of space to him without it being access to anything else. Assume he's not a malicious actor, but also that I want my stuff to stay private.

He talked a massive game during the opening races, but he's failed to get into Q3 at half the races so far. It's incredible how Verstappen just stomps everyone thrown into the other car, young or experienced, and in every area. I honestly don't think Checo "the tyre whisperer" Perez is better than Ver at tyre-saving, nor strategy, nor raw pace...

Is there anyone who RB would feasibly replace Per with? Maybe Norris? I'm not a huge fan personally, but I know he's got plenty of cachet at the moment.
