Rant: My recent experience of trying to install windows for gaming and why I'm really thankful for Linux
  • @beatle @stoy expecting any modern os to support 20 year old hardware is silly.

Netflix Just Saved The Most Underrated Star Trek Show — Creators Tease What's Next
  • @Dyskolos @ValueSubtracted I tried 3 times to get into it and I couldn’t. Today I forced it and it was at the end of episode 9 when I said “ok, this is a good show.” That much work just to start liking a show isn’t for everyone but after finishing the first season I think it’s worth it. I think the second is set up to be really good and I’m excited for it. I didn’t like lower decks or enterprise at first either.

What makes you not want to use Linux anymore and maybe move back to Windows, MacOS, or TempleOS?
  • @mindbleach @ani I feel old saying I felt the same way about windows 2000

what caused you to get into Linux?
  • @Lifecoach5000 @Altomes just a heads up, if you add something and plex doesn’t see it, it’s permissions. It’s always permissions. I’ve been using Linux and plex for years and I always forget permissions. Or I used to before I wrote a script to fix it before I realize I forgot it.

What Tweak, Program, ... changes a Desktop Environment from unusable to great for you?
  • @d3Xt3r @princessnorah I only use 5 extensions, but I’ve always used those 5 and I’ve never had any break after an update. Maybe I’m just lucky?

Any distros like linux mint with gnome desktop?
  • @manapropos @LeFantome love it when d-bags make these kinds of comments. Now I get to keep my mute list happy by feeding it another name. You know, Linux users get a bad rap because of snark like this.

  • @Thorry84 @xilliah I’ve done a lot of tech trouble shooting, sounds about right. It’s always something really dumb that you never would have imagined+hardware failure.

Windows 11 vs Linux supported HW
  • @eochaid @OsrsNeedsF2P yeah… I’m sorry but that’s like saying all screwdrivers suck. If you don’t take the time to learn how to use a tool you will always have a negative experience using said tool. You are never going to find an advanced technology that’s been dumbed down to the point where you can’t break it.

  • @bulbasaur “the study of how to arrange reproduction within a human population to increase the occurrence of heritable characteristics regarded as desirable.” Very different from augmenting oneself with current tech, like vaccination.

  • @varda @ValueSubtracted Maybe I missed something but I thought the Ilyrians were all about augmentation, both genetic and technological. I think there’s a huge difference between taking something, making it better and the pursuit of a perfect race. I too would like to know more.
