Shaun of the Dead 20th anniversary screenings
  • At once a pleasant surprise and ageingly (new word buzzer?) terrifying

Edit: in a stellar bit of irony, I mispelt the new word incorrectly, unless you're based in "freedom land"

  • Any tips the best way(s) to watch the upcoming season? I'm also contemplating paying for DAZN (based in the UK)... with a temporary card that I can cancel given all the negative Trustpilot reviews

Ticketmaster to be investigated by watchdog over 'dynamic pricing' of Oasis tickets
  • Heard a lot about that over in the US, no surprise crappy Ticketmaster brought it over here. Already on my avoid list as they block VPNs, kinda "you can't fire me, I quit!" vibes but I don't regret it

What have you been listening to recently?
  • I finally caught Hawtin live last year (at Sonar of all things) and finally got why he's so respected despite wobbles here and there. Will check out that record this weekend, cheers!

  • What have you been listening to recently?

Just a small attempt to get more, or indeed any activity going here. I'm also genuinely curious, what have folks been listening to lately? If there's enough interest I could make this a monthly post.

    For myself, a few below:

Irini - s/t: has probably become my fave Traumprinz/DJ Metatron album which says something, not just techno/trance/ambient but other styles like breaks/dnb scattered about

Air Liquide - Abuse Your Illusions: kicking myself that it took so long to get into them, still discovering a lot!

Sandwell District - Feed Forward: stone cold classic that fits most moods personally, RIP Juan

  • Fair enough if you're getting that much off the phone, hope it's a good one 🤞I can't hack the iPhone-like design so am glad I went for the Xperia 1 VI

  • Mobile plans as standard here (in the UK) offer SMS for free, can't remember when they used to routinely charge tbh. But I think I only text my dad as he's very old school, everyone else is Signal/WhatsApp/Telegram

COSMIC ALPHA 1 Released (Desktop Environment Written In Rust From System76)
  • Checking it out now, seems very usable already!

Main issues I'm having are related to the Panel applets, like not being able to open Mullvad or Steam library from their right click menus.

But the standard things I've tried like streaming music, watching movies on VLC on a second monitor and playing games (admittedly easy stuff for the laptop like Slay the Spire and Into the Breach) all work with no issues so far.

Looking forward to getting into theming, etc and to see Cosmic get the additional Settings menus and be further refined 😄

    Counter strike 2 issues
  • Fwiw, I've had no issues playing CS2 on either with my old (3700x/1080ti) or newer setup (5800X3D/7900XTX) with PopOS. The first doesn't seem too far away from your rig, have you tried switching the Nvidia driver you're on? I think Turing is fine with 560?

Unihertz's Kickstater for a new 5-inch phone is still open, does anybody have feedback on their other models?
  • Would've backed but for the lack of 3.5mm jack. I get the even greater fight for space in a phone this small plus the prevalence of TWS/Bluetooth headphones but it's something that I personally won't compromise on

    HDR Confusion
  • Does your display specifically support HDR? If not it doesn't matter whether the codecs/media/metadata support it, you won't gain from it

  • I recently installed Pop on another device, everything is fine except for Pop Shop which seems to be missing apps that I already have installed through there on my main desktop.

I checked that I hadn't accidentally deleted/messed with the sources and they all look fine. These are common apps like Librewolf, Joplin and Standard Notes.

I know they can be installed through other methods like apt or appimage but am curious as to the possible reasons behind the discrepancy. What's more confusing is that I had a few attempts installing Pop (as recently as 10hrs ago) on this newer device and they appeared then!

Given (I believe) there's no mechanism for locals to get cheaper tickets, does anyone have any tips for grabbing cheaper day tickets? Wouldn't mind catching a fair few acts on Friday and Sunday, just not for £200+!
