which distro and why do you prefer it over others?
  • Debian for me and Linux Mint Debian Edition for anyone I help with computers, because I don't want to configure a system more than once and to investigate why some stuff doesn't work.

What film, show or game that is not necessarily 'underated' didn't have the level of social impact it deserved.
  • Universe was my favorite of all of Stargate. It asked the best questions and showed how easy it is to die on a super advanced spaceship if there isn't fresh air and clean water. A shame it is discontinued.

What was your worst experience at work?
  • A sysadmin couldn't install a Debian server, because the internet was unavailable. There were 2 net cards in the machine (either had an interface twice the size of the PCI slot it was sitting in, the other was regular PCI). My dear mentor put the LAN cable into the regular card, the told the installer to use the other. I told him to finish my work and installed the server for him.

Same sysadmin told me to graft two CAT5e cables. I wired a small cable (10 cm), starting with green-white at both ends, then grefted the two cables with it. Later he complained, that I made a crossed wiring, because the other cables started with orage-white. I couldn't explain, if you double-cross a wire it becomes a straight one. Then I told him, that modern routers configure themsefves, no matter how messed up the wiring.

At another company there were 3 pieces of free antivirus on every PC. A onedrive (free) account was our cloud service. The boss wanted me to teach the store manager how to develop a website and I had one week to do that, that was my last week.

What's your opinion on telegram from a foss and privacy perspective?
  • It's one step better than whatsapp, fb messenger and viber. I use Signal with my family and friends, it's a middle ground between the big ones and XMPP.

    OSM on android
  • Funnily enough, from the first time I felt OSMAnd more intuitive than gmaps. Overwhelming setting options, yeah, but it felt like home to me.

What was your first experience using Linux? How old were you? Stick around or did you go back to windows before eventually circling back to Linux?
  • It was 2009 and I was 14. I had been using Ubuntu on my father's PC for a year and I installed Andromeda Linux (an Ubuntu fork with a stunning theme), completely wiping my HDD. The next day I installed Windows and attempted my second Linux install, I was more careful and got a doual boot working.
