Hey everyone 👋
Bean for Lemmy is now available on the App Store for everyone to download!
The app is free to use with a "Pro" plan that gives you access to some premium features like push notifications and multiple accounts, as well as a bunch of customisation options with more themes and app icons available.
Thank you to everyone who tested the app over the last month. I'm really happy with what I've made in a short period of time but… This is just the beginning and I have so much more planned including mod tools, kbin supported more!
I hope you'll check it out and I look forward to hearing your feedback ❤️

Disappointed
I still use Bean as it works for my uses. But, disappointed there wasn’t more transparency and communication. Also, disappointed it wasn’t made Open Source so someone could’ve picked it up. It feels like multiple levels of “screw you” to users

Dead?
So is Bean completely dead? I noticed it’s not even in the App Store anymore. Still have the last version on my iPhone. Should I delete it?
- http:// wearecocoon.co.uk /
Now that http://wearecocoon.co.uk is officially out of business (subpages are still working) did anybody try to get a refund in the App Store?
Edit
I just opened a fraud case with Apple support: http://reportaproblem.apple.com/
Would like to know more about what’s going on with the development of this app? Any plans? How are things going? What sort of things will be the primary focus in the near future?
Or am I missing something?
Hey Steve,
its been a while since your last occurrence, when you and your buddy re-assured your commitment and explained some time of absence: fine with the most of us. But since then: silence.
Some of your early customers already moved on and wrote off their invest.
Could you please step the game up a little and start managing your community and maybe our expectations? For example you could share a rough roadmap, just so we know, that you are still on it and your community issues were heard? Or take half an hour once a week, biweekly or monthly to communicate your progress and what you are up to?
Best wishes a early stage customer that already resorts to other clients
How do I hide the voting buttons in the feed view? They take away a lot of screen space and I am not voting on anything I have not yet read. I didn’t find this in the settings. Thanks.

AI summarizing?
What happened to the ai summarizing?
1.1 has seen no progress. 1.0 hasn’t been updated in about a month.
I really don't like the desktop web Lemmy UI, it's really ugly in my opinion. Is there an app or something I can use for lemmy.world that'll make it just a little more... idk, prettified?
Now Lemmy 0.19 has been released it would be great to see the new "Scaled" sort option in Bean. Hopefully its a simple request.
The scaled option is basically a tweak to Hot, which gives equal weightings to small communities too.
Seems to fix the image upload issue.
Thanks Steve and team! Hoping for an update that includes widgets soon 😏🫡❤️
BTW I get a json error about unexpected token < when trying to upload image
Just wanted to see how the app dev is tracking along? Can we expect an update before the holidays start? Cheers

For whatever reason, Bean shows no content. Other clients show a link or embedded video file.
Hey Everyone,
First of all, I owe you an apology for the lack of updates and communication from me. I totally understand the frustration from everyone and the feeling that the rug’s been pulled out from under you.
I’m not going to many any excuses, I can only express my apologies and plans to rectify this moving forward.
Next week, I will be working to fix some of the issues highlighted in this community: chiefly the inbox issues and switching to using the Authorization header now that Lemmy has made the change.
After that, I want to work with you all again as I did during the beta testing phase to figure out what priorities should be.
I of course, don’t expect anyone to take my word any face value but I hope that actions speak louder than words and that you’ll bear with me while I pick development back up on Bean.
It’s pretty late here in the UK but I didn’t want to head to sleep while everyone was expressing their concerns.
- Steve
Bought lifetime, no updates since then. Last activity from Steve’s account (the developer) on Lemmy was over 3 months ago.
A month ago his colleague had an update. Nothing since then.
Did I just throw away my money on this app? Or do you guys think development will start up again?
Also, what do you guys think is the best alternative to Bean with a similar UI?
I know the devs had some other commitments that we due to end last month, but its still radio silent here.
Like others I am still having crashes and other issues. I did subscribe to a lifetime subscription and do feel a bit cheated that there's been no updates or even replies to bug reports.
Bean is still a great app and I hope development ramps up again, especially with all the backend changes coming to Lemmy soon!
Like the title says, I’ve been unable to get my unread replies in the inbox. The loading circle just spins endlessly.

That post causes an endless scroll repeating the same text over and over again. This doesn’t happen in a few other clients I’ve tested it with. Same behavior in feed view or post view.
I know the dev is buried in some deadlines, but I wanted to post a feature request for when things pick back up on the Bean side.
Would it be possible to have different sort settings for the main Home feed and the Community feeds? I’d like to be able to sort by “Hot” or “Top” with all read posts hidden while scrolling on the Home feed, but sort by “New” without read posts hidden while in specific communities.
Sorting by “Top” with read posts hidden leaves virtually every community empty at the moment, so it’s a few extra steps to bring everything back.
Thanks Steve!
Don’t want to be THAT guy, but I paid for the premium version so I feel like that earns a bit of a pass.
Is Bean still being developed? I understand Steve had a case of Covid that took a while to get over, but he’s been almost nonexistent on Lemmy, in general, and there’s been little communication. Sure, I jumped and took the chance with my money on a newly developed app, but I was hoping the development would be further encouraged by the starting subscribers.
There hasn’t been an answer on my thread asking about 0.19 support which means, possibly, the app won’t even function in the near future.
Hoping to hear from the dev that things are picking back up again.
Would love to see some mod tools added to the app. Happy to help test and provide feedback on them if needed.

Looks like some significant changes coming to the login authentication. Will Bean be ready to support once 0.19 is released?
Oddly, communities aren’t loading for me on Bean right now. They are working from desktop and Voyager, so I don’t think it’s a server issue. I’ll keep trying throughout the day though.
Edit: They open if I click a link on the feed. But not if I click on a community from my subscriptions.
Edit 2: I was sorting by “Top Six Hours,” so only posts from the last six hours were showing. It was a silly error on the user side. Sorry!!’
I can’t seem to find a way to edit a grouped community list once it’s created. I would love to be able to add or remove communities from the group.
If it exists and I’m missing where to do it, please let me know.
Please add widget support to Bean. I'll even subscribe to Pro for them. I just need a great lemmy app that has widgets like the Apollo app had. Thanks
Edit 1: fuck it. I just subscribed to Pro. Bean is hands down the best lemmy app for iOS. I've literally tested them all; their stable and TestFlight versions. Hopefully my sub to Pro can help keep active development to Bean. Fingers crossed for widgets (っಠ‿ಠ)っ
The post at https://beehaw.org/post/8232257 has an image inside a spoiler, but Bean displays the image outside the spoiler instead
With the new Bean update I’m not able to open this community anymore.
The only thing I see is a black bean.
Hi Tahoma and Verdana are very popular font for good screen reading. Is it possible to support these fonts?
Hey Everyone!
I’m submitting a small update (1.0.7) to the App Store today that changes the following:
- Added new theme: Sky
- Added an option to hide or show usernames on the feed.
- Bookmarks no longer hide read posts.
- Fixed format bar on comments covering text.
Apologies for the delay on getting an update out to you all, hopefully I’m fully recovered from being sick and ready to get some more stuff out to you all soon.
I’m still working on messaging which will hopefully be in 1.1 soon. After that, priority will be iPad with smaller patches for bug fixes in between.
Thank you so much for the support and welfare checks while I was gone. I really appreciate you all ❤️
Not sure this can be fixed, but some posts don’t format correctly. Specifically ones with tables, like this one. I didn’t check other apps, and it might just be that tables and apps don’t mix in Lemmy.
Hope you’re mostly/fully recovered!
Edit: Not sure how to link it so it opens in the app. Sorry.
Edit #2: Checked out the same post on another app, and it had the same formatting issue.
I have “hide read posts” enabled on Lemmy. Unfortunately it does not show any of my saved/bookmarked posts because of this
The current COVID variant going around doesn’t seem like a pleasant one.
When you tap a message in your mailbox, it doesn’t take you to the message in the context of the post. The issue is that it seems to try to find the message, but then loads more comments which pushes it out of the screen and I have to scroll up or down to fin it again. It should first load all comments then scroll automatically to the desired one.
