Hey everyone 👋
Bean for Lemmy is now available on the App Store for everyone to download!
The app is free to use with a "Pro" plan that gives you access to some premium features like push notifications and multiple accounts, as well as a bunch of customisation options with more themes and app icons available.
Thank you to everyone who tested the app over the last month. I'm really happy with what I've made in a short period of time but… This is just the beginning and I have so much more planned including mod tools, kbin supported more!
I hope you'll check it out and I look forward to hearing your feedback ❤️
To everyone that enjoys the app, and especially those pleased enough to subscribe or purchase Lifetime Pro, don’t forget to rate and review the app in the App Store. Let’s help Steve build a user base!
Before I buy Pro, is there a timeline as to when image posts will mark as read correctly when the image is opened from the thumbnail? (Links seem to mark as read correctly when clicking the thumbnail)
Any plans to add a safari extension like Apollo used to have and Ivory currently has? I’m all for buying in on good software, but that’s one of the requirements for me to buy in.
If you used Apollo or Ivory you might remember they both have a Safari extension where they take links to instances and open them in the relevant app. Apollo would just open reddit links but Ivory takes a link to any Mastodon instance and opens it in the app. It would be awesome to have the same happen with lemmy instances. I think Memmy is planning on something like that
EDIT: Fixed it. After deleting the app from the phone, and choosing the option to remove all data, a fresh install allowed me to go through the real Pro subscription process.
Original message below:
I'm having trouble subscribing to Pro. I did the fake lifetime subscription in TestFlight a few days ago, and it still says i'm subscribed in the app store version. In TestFlight, it now shows the option to install bean, so I'm pretty sure the version on my phone is the official release. I want to give you real money!
Finally my go to Lemmy app is in the AppStore.
Your app made the transition from reddit over to Lemmy much much easier for me. Thank you very much! Can’t wait what the future is brining…
Will Pro carry over to testflight?
It definitely wasn't cheap (considering the several open source free lemmy apps), but seeing how fast this app has evolved + your commitment shows that this is gonna be a serious app (and not a side experiment that is suddenly canned).
This is also exactly why I chose lemm.ee as my instance, I'm looking for serious and stable platforms. Commitment quickly runs out for free apps, as I've seen many times before. Anyways congrats on the appstore release!
The link for new TestFlight testers is already closed and I'll be clearing the list at the end of this week. Testing for v1.1 will be opened up again as a new list soon.
Remember us testers who have been here for a while… :)
No, seriously well done. The app is truly excellent and my go-to option for Lemmy. Just mark as read on scroll to be added and it will pretty much perfect!
Please reconsider the lifetime price 🙏. I want to support your efforts but I don’t do subscriptions and $30/$50 is too high a price for an unproven system (lemmy) and developer, and an app that still has some large bugs/issues and lacks some (what I would consider “essential”) functionality. This sentiment has been said by others in other communities when discussing Bean as well, so I don’t think I’m off base.
I said this elsewhere, but at $10 I have a feeling you’d get a lot more sales due to the price being in the impulse buy range, and low enough you’ll get FOMOers that are willing to throw down $10 to see what happens.
$30 for the early bird price means you can never go lower than $30 for future sales (Black Friday or what have you). I think that is a mistake, personally, and you may disagree.
Bummer but I understand. Appreciate the reply. When does the early bird pricing expire? I might go for it anyway, you seem like a good dude and are very respectful and responsive so I want to support.
Here’s a few off the top of my head. I’ll start keeping a list as I use the app more.
No in-line gif or video support
Cannot tap to collapse a post
Can’t edit comments from your profile screen
Can’t tap a comment in your profile to go to that comment in the thread
No gesture to swipe from right to left to return to the previous post (ie you’re viewing the All lost, open a post/thread, read comments, swipe left to right to go back to All list, scroll down a bit, then decide to return to the previous thread - in Apollo, you could wipe right to left to return to the last thread)
No hide read posts button (you have to do it through a menu)
Not enough compact comment option(s) - ie it would be nice to have the upvote/downvote count shown at the top of the comment to the right of the username
No default sorting order by list type (ie all, local, subscribed lists)
Collapsing a comment thread from the middle of thread does not automatically bring you to the next top level comment
Not essential, but doesn’t support animated community logos
