According to this I think this is the Mastodon account of the Funkwhale developer https://mastodon.eliotberriot.com/@funkwhale which is down as well. The first link also has a link to their Matrix channel.

funkwhale.agapimou.top is a Funkwhale instance, and it seems to be running, so it must just be that one instance.

3@Telorand @opensource Maybe. But I didn't think there was an actual funkwhale instance at that URL -- I thought it was just the project's website (forums, git repo, etc). I could be wrong, though.
If so, that's an unfortunate way of learning to separate the two, I guess. 😩

v2 was in the planning stages on their forum, but the website has now been down for 2-3 days (that I know of).

ETA: It's a single instance, but also the main landing page for feeding people to various docs and instances.
9It's a legit fediverse software for sharing music. I don't know anything about specific instances though.
