What's the best way these days to install multiple copies of a messaging app?
Long time ago I'd use a third party app for that, but I don't really trust them enough for that now. The closest solution I found was to use the work profile with Shelter, would that be the way to go?
In my case the app is Facebook Messenger & phone is Pixel 6.
I think Samsung devices also had a built in way to do this
Commenting for engagement, I hope you're able to find what you're looking for :)

Android 14 has support for this so hopefully it does release.

Any ideas on when it might release? The articles I came across said September
2ReplyPretty sure it's being delayed until October, they're releasing the Pixel 8 alongside it

I think Shelter works or you can install Messenger Lite as your second copy
2ReplyThat's actually why I'm looking, Messenger Lite just got shut down the other day
That setup worked great till now
1ReplyOh sad to hear, i guess Shelter is the way to go but the separate storage is kind of a pain to deal with

I have an app called "Clone app" that I use to have two accounts on Discord.

I couldn't find anything open source but this one works and isn't too privacy invasive.

Shelter can give you one extra copy. Not sure about more than that.
1ReplyYea this works pretty well, but it gets a little annoying trying to send a photo because the storage is separate
Still possible but just a couple of extra steps every time
2ReplyReally? I can share photos from work to personal. I don't know what I did.

Samsung does have a way to do this, secure folder. It's different in some ways to the work profile but functionally the same
