The Largest Analysis of Film Dialogue by Gender, Ever
Lately, Hollywood has been taking so much shit for rampant sexism and racism. The prevailing theme: white men dominate movie roles.
By measuring dialogue, we have much more objective measure of gender inclusivity.
So what? What now? Does a book/ movie/story get better if it's 50/50?
It's nice to analyse data but what is it good for?
Now, you could rank the movies by popularity and draw the conclusion that the more men talk, the more popular the movie.
Correlation != causality
8If the main character of a movie is a woman and 90% of dialogue is by men it likely warrants investigating why.
9Wow, it's almost like statistical analysis of populations is done in order to discover trends rather than interrogate individual cases in that population.
you can pick any x from X and say "but what about this one" and yet you are still left with the task of explaining the trend in your samples.
Any guesses as to the reasons behind these trends?

Would be interesting to see it plotted with release date so we can see if there has been any change over time.
