Families go into massive debt building facilities to the mega's standards, then get clawed back on their contracts until they're working for free in order to not go bankrupt. It's insane what's been done to farmers by these assholes.
here in mexico the chicken supply chain is absolutely robustly organic by the nature of chickens lifecycles not by design. literally any human with a hand to place water can raise hundreds lf chickens. and then easily sell them to slaughter.

There was a farmer growing sustainable heritage breed chicken for up to about $20/kg in my area. He was using the chickens to revegetate waste lands to native forest.
