Do they even consider the user?

This is the same reason I'm an Apple user! I hate having a choice in hardware and software!! Makes things real easy.

Honestly, I think all advices are good, for a first time user it really doesn't matter the distro as long as it works without too much terminal (which is like 99% of what is recommended) the only thing that really matters is the DE, and it's on the user to do the basic research of "do I like a more traditional desktop, or GNOME)

The real advice is to not be afraid to switch if you are unhappy. for me it took some time but I really like my current distro.
