“It is an entire nation out there that is responsible,” Herzog said at a press conference on Friday. “It is not true this rhetoric about civilians not being aware, not involved. It’s absolutely not true. They could have risen up. They could have fought against that evil regime which took over Gaza in a coup d’etat.”

When a reporter asked Herzog to clarify whether he meant to say that since Gazans did not remove Hamas from power “that makes them, by implication, legitimate targets,” the Israeli president claimed, “No, I didn’t say that.”

But he then stated: “When you have a missile in your goddamn kitchen and you want to shoot it at me, am I allowed to defend myself?”

- I can imagine Hamas using identical justification for their murder and kidnapping of Israeli citizens. “Why didn’t they rise up against their government that is killing women and children in Gaza?” I’m so embarrassed that the US is greasing up this war machine.

  And you can argue that a democratic population is somehow more guilty of whatever their government do that the population of a dictatorship. If the people of Israel wanted peace with Palestine, they would vote for someone else.

  Both sides have done horrible things and will keep doing horrible things. I wish I had a good answer but I don't. The really shit part is this will make Ukraine suffer even more if Russian plan works gets focus away from Ukraine.
