  • I've been exercising as usual but not posting much on account of it being my 50th birthday in the last few days. I've been gutsing on cake and gorging on various takeaway foods as is tradition (on my birthday anyway!). My colleagues gave me some lovely gifts and a very tall cake and made me feel special. Fam were a bit hit and miss. I do feel a little different in a way that's hard to describe. You can be in denial about getting older as much as you like, but something about hitting a half century hits different. This is going to sound a bit silly, but it almost feels like a very faint shadow over me that others can't really see, but I know is there. I'm still the same positive, happy and determined me, but there's just this.. thing. I'm not doing too well at describing it, but it's an odd feeling, that's for sure.

  • All the chores are done before midday... is, is this what it's like to be normal. I've vacuumed, mopped, put washing on, done the dishes, and I've even changed the sheets, and dusted.

Edit- Ok so maybe not normal... I am an all at once sort of person though, I like to either get everything done in one go or not bother at all.

  • pakidge #1 has arrived. Potato in air fryer now.

It is lighter than I expected, which is good as it will make it easy to put in and out of a cupboard and gives me more options as to where I can put it.

  • Bloody hell, most of last week was this morass of depression and bleakness and everything seemed doomed, but I'm all positive and light and energetic today despite being up till 4am? What gives, brain? Is it really just the sun??? (It can't just be vitamin D because I take seriously big doses)

Sheets all being washed and dried, haven't started packing yet but have a bit of a list. Much easier packing for warm climates. Must get to Leo's this arvo to get some gifts, and use up what's left in the fridge tonight. Looks like it'll be kale pasta sauce.

  • I have been working out to do with the food I need to use up, and have realised I have all the ingredients for a great pavlova. Which is really tempting, but then I would have to eat an entire pavlova, which is probably not the healthiest idea. I guess I'll stick with the quiche and cakes for the freezer plan.

  • My adhd diagnostic appointment has been moved from the 23rd of November to this Thursday the 19th if October!!! Work is accommodating me for it and I am so stoked!! Nervous cause what if somehow despite my research, and doing the DSM5 myself, they tell me I don't have ADHD but genuinely so keen to officially be diagnosed and take further steps to be the best me ever. Thanks to the bank of mum and dad for helping me with the fee a month sooner then expected.

  • This sore throat really sucks. It seems to have progressed to my ear now, so razor blades in my ear and my throat when I swallow. Still negative though.

Edit. Thanks all, doctors appointment tomorrow morning sorted.

  • I keep getting distracted by my sparkly nails today.

  • Just back from first aid prac training - was a little worried about the cats as I usually don't leave them for more than three hours and the last time I did there were worried little faces to greet me.
However this time Zooks was basking in the sun in the front window and Sammi on my bed, and they graciously accepted the offer of food. 😂.
Oh and they're expressing their displeasure by swatting at each other, but ah well.

  • Sammi woke me up at 4:45 yowling. As far as I could tell it was a mix of 'the litter tray needs scooping' (I heard her hit it just before I dropped off and again just before the yowling started) and 'while you're at it, feed me'. Horror.
The amazing thing was Zooks slept through it - until I elbowed her by accident because I hadn't realised she was sleeping there.
Now we're all awake and not too happy about it.

  • 6.4k this morning. Felt pretty good too. Doggo back in bed for a few hours.

  • I plated up a giant piece of cake for myself and MissGod walks into kitchen, pokes me in the stomach and says, “feeding the little one ?”

    I fucking died…

  • I think I know what the problem with the spinach damping off is. The pots are self watering and perhaps the heavy rains filled the bottom reservoir then flooded the soil. Causing any fungus or bacteria to overgrow.

I should have been tipping the excess water out regularly but forgot, lately I’ve had my hands full with just myself and the furbaby.

Am I going to have to dump this crop, get rid of the soil, clean the pot and start again?

  • You know what? I'm about to say it.. I don't care what anybody thinks.. Woolworths store brand milk is better than Pura milk.

  • These American true crime stories all start out the same.

Bumfuck is a small town. Middle of nowhere. Everybody knows everybody. Everybody knows everybody's business. Nobody locks their doors. Everybody owns a gun or 2. Nothing ever happens here. It's a sleepy town you know.

Alright I added a line in there but it's true.

  • Not a good night. Baby woke up at 3, was hungry so he got fed. Then fussed for halfa before spewing (not just spitting up, full on projectile) over everything. Got him cleaned up then surprise, he was hungry again. Poor little fella is having a tough time adjusting to the new 6 month formula. Mrs was also feeling crook so now Im worried its gonna be a round of Gastro, but so far I'm fine.

  • Wargh, when I have a good day it's like I live in another realm and don't need to eat till 11pm and am effortlessly up till way too late going over everything 2454952 times - but I think The Stupid Project With The Boss that's been dragging on for far too long is finally, well and truly, completely, DONE as far as my involvement goes - I can draw a line through that now.

A really fun project I quoted before got accepted after months, but I'm no longer going to be able to do any of the work on it, most likely. Bittersweet but still for the best. Whoever ends up going better be effing grateful they get to hike in and out of a very beautiful part of the world (and even camp overnight!) to look at plants and record some simple things 🥲

We're now down to the actual thing I stayed on to do. Chances are it won't get done for a while but if I can set up the bones before I go I can chip away at it when I'm sick of family and when I get back. I want to be done by the end of November. Eyes on the prize...

  • Someone has dumped a wrecked tyre in my garden. Where can I dispose of it? Heard a Moron doing burnouts, guess he threw his trashed tyre into my place.

  • I'm in trouble from Ted Cat. Either late for bed or not enough of his favourite cat food. 😬

  • I am pooped. I just finished cleaning the car. Why is it, sometimes no matter how much you soap the car up when you rinse it, you seem to have missed a giant patch. Happens to me every time.

Can’t believe I’m also up to Alone S9. You think I’d get over it given that the premise is essentially the same, but I really dig it. Still solidifies I’d die in the wilderness if left to my own devices. I’m going to have to brush up on my apocalyptic skills. Hehe.

  • A fair few steps closer to finishing this drip system. Installed the backflow / filter pressure things and the air release / flush valves. All strapped in not a single leak ominous synth noises so far. Timers aren't hallucinating all looking good.

  • Got all the sheets and stuff washed and dried, woot!

And I cleared out my fridge!! It might not look the most appetising, but this pasta in kale sauce is WINNING - and extremely cheap! Uses a few different pots but not hard to do at all and can be quite quick. Great way to use up heaps of kale as well... And not get the bastard stuck between your newly cleaned teeth...

    deets

Followed this recipe in the NYT except for step 1, where I instead slow cooked a mirepoix (carrot, celery and onion chopped finely), along with the finely chopped kale ribs, and added some good stock powder, garlic powder (and garlic infused olive oil), and some herbs (dried thyme and oregano, some rosemary from the balcony). And threw in some chickpeas at the end as that tin's been sitting in my pantry for far too long.

I also finally gave my rather dusty and overgrown prostrate rosemary on the balcony a long overdue haircut - this is about 1/3 of the plant's bulk, it was pretty much poking into the downstairs neighbour's balcony... There's too many dead flowers and gunk in all that shit, I'll try to clean up a bit but I think most of it is going in the green bin sadly.

Kitchen's tidied, now to head to Leo's, pick up all the good shit, and make my bed (ughhhhhhhhghhghh but I'll thank myself for it later).

The things you can do when the sun's out...

  • This week off is supposed to be me setting a normal sleep schedule, but boy howdy is it hard not to just stay in bed because I don't actually have to be anywhere. At least this morning I did wake up at 8am like I wanted to, even if I am still tucked up.

  • Air fryer update:

Diced potato at lunch browned quite well and quickly, did not maintain crunchiness long - but was not prepped, just diced and sprayed with a bit of oil. A reheated veggie slice worked very well, it tends to be a bit soggy with all the vegetables and a bit of extra crisping on the outside worked well.

For dinner I cooked pork schnitzel and some fennel. Both worked well - the fennel was very tough, but I think that is the fault of the fennel, not the cooking.

    Currently in progress: pear crumble.
