What are the options for a European WiFi access point?
I know AVM (i.e. FritzBox) and Devolo make WiFi devices, but both don't offer access points. I guess you could use a FritzBox, but their design don't make them suitable to be boltet to the wall of a living room.
I found Mikrotik that are a bit difficult to configure and LevelOne.
Are there any other options?
I have been using Mikrotik for more than 15 years and it’s true that they have so many options that they can feel overwhelming.
But they also have a setup wizard that allows you to configure a basic AP file with a single network and shared internet (NAT) in a few clicks, quite similar to standard routers.
What is the issue you find difficult, ongoing setup and maintenance after initial setup?
I’m asking with good faith, there’s also third party management software for Mikrotik and RouterOS that could help cover your needs.

Did you check the Fritz Repeaters (e.g. 2400 or 1200 AX)? They have a ethernet port, can be configured as a WiFi access point and IMHO do not look too bad.

Exactly, I have here several 1200AX as mesh APs active and it works flawless with a FRITZ!Box router
You could maybe flash mikrotik with openwrt? That way you avoid mikrotiks ui etc. Openwrt doesn't support wifi6 think

Doesn't support WiFi 6 on mikrotik you mean? As I'm currently running Openwrt on some bottom-shelf Asus routers and WiFi 6 works just fine.
Are you looking for consumer or enterprise products? I've bought a two unit mesh set from Cudy, it's a spin-off from TP-Link.
Tplink should be avoided because they don't care about security and your router will become a part of a botnet
Hence Cudy, which is a spin-off. It was founded by ex-TP-Link employees.
Kinda in between. I just need a simple AP without fancy firewalling or other enterprise features, but I still want a solid device that's not just a toy
