Changing to static IP at the command line (see also: Netplan sucks)
Hey all. I'm decently capable at the command line, but for the life of me I can't get a functional netplan to apply. Does anyone have any advice on getting a static IP functioning on the latest Ubuntu server, or maybe some resource on making a netplan that works?
Good choice : Install ifupdown or whatever. YAML it's a terrible file to edit by commandline.
Bad choice : use chatgpt to generate your network configuration
Netplan is pretty simple for what it is. All you need is the interface, address, and route, maybe DNS if you don’t want to set that up another way. Because it’s yaml, spacing matters, so watch that. You can use netplan try which will automatically revert if you don’t give it any input for a certain amount of time.
