The dispatchers from an English speaking country didn't speak enough Spanish. And that frustrated people who illegally trespassed into our country and don't contribute towards funding the service they called.
The US doesn't have an official language and it's completely unreasonable for Pima County, where ~25% of residents speak Spanish as their primary language, to not have Spanish-speaking dispatchers available.
Just weird to think that you wouldn't expect a 911 to have dispatcher to speak to Spanish speakers when necessary pretty much anywhere in the Southwest. You can "para Español, oprima el dos" on virtually every phone system here and I'm in Indiana.
The United States has no official language. Even in Arizona where English IS the official language, there are written exceptions in the law for law enforcement and emergency services.
who illegally trespassed
Why would they do that? They're surely not stupid, they know how the US feels about them, they know how dangerous it is, and yet they do it anyways. Why? Because despite all of that, the situation they're trying to leave is even worse, and worth the risk. Why don't they just immigrate legally? Well, ignoring the fact that the requirements to even be considered are unobtainable for most people in the countries they're fleeing from, even when you DO get on the wait list it can literally be over a decade before you're actually approved for a green card. It's no wonder people take the quick, risky, and illegal option when they need to get the fuck out of dodge NOW, rather than hoping the bureaucratic process happens before it's too late.
and don't contribute towards funding the service they called.
Undocumented immigrants pay billions in taxes every single year. Over $10 billion, in fact.
