I'd do it but family won't. Whatsapp is Goliath it will take some doing to peel away users because of the family connections
Just refuse to use it. They will come around if they value communicating with you. And if they don't... well, you have your answer.
Sadly in my country no one uses signal, everyone used either WhatsApp or Telegram or Facebook messenger for everyday.
I would love to migrate if everyone in my country use signal or other FOSS messenger app, because I'm sick to see WhatsApp become more and more patronizing every single update.
I did, a decade ago, all my must have contacts have long ago added Signal or switched. Those that cant be botherd mehhhh i cant be bothered with them either.
Will consider that I'd they provide a non-electron version.
Nope I preefer to use WIRE.
Unfortunately Signal has less features, is less convenient, not as pretty and generally unliked by people who don't care that much about privacy, which means it will never gather the critical mass to be able to move completely to it. All my contacts use WhatsApp, it's basically impossible to escape.
What feature could you possibly want that signal does not have? What's inconvenient about it? Never used WhatsApp and am genuinely curious.
Can't set different nicknames between servers, and it's much worse at actually maintaining large group conversations. Compare how communities are managed in discord or telegram vs signal.
This right here is a perfect example of how misinformation spreads so easily, intentionally or not.
Most people simply don't pay much attention to details about things that aren't directly affecting them. Signal and insecure were the things taken away from that debacle, not that it was entirely Hegseth that fucked up.
Not that the issue boiled down to simply adding someone to a thread they shouldn't have been in, which happens all the time to people with regular text messaging. We expect that government officials should be verifying what they're doing when handling classified info. The fact it was a modified and insecure version of the app wasn't actually part of the issue. And that Hegseth fucked it up a second time didn't even register apparently.
Nothing prevents user error. Except, I guess, something impossible to use.
Done.
