If you scroll the main lemmy feed and get even a few pages down you'll undoubtedly start encountering tons of AI art/porn lemmy communities. I block each one but it's like whack-a-mole
I've definitely seen those, but never sailor moon specifically. I also don't block them since I've already scrolled down far enough that there usually isn't really any good content left to find at that point.
you wouldn't happen to be born in the 70s? I have a Gen X friend who has the very same mindset, I'm curious to see how much of that era's culture drives the dislike towards anything russian, japanese or otherwise 'communist'
he is a reader and refuses to read metro 2033 because the author is russian.
Born in 84, loved Saber Rider and The Star Sheriffs and the like. Never was a fan of that typical wacky behavior in Anime. Plus I liked Saber Rider and others in spite the art style.
And as time went by, I got more and more annoyed of being bombarded with Anime almost anywhere. (That's how I imagine not being a Star Wars fan when new stuff is out)
Plus it seemed to become a beast of its own with huge eyes, screaming and so much cuteness, it makes me puke. It's just not for me.
And I loved Metro 2033, even though I never made it past the first two chapters of 2034. It just didn't click.
That's me, but that's not why I block anime. A lot of it on Lemmy is really creepy. Very childish looking characters, with very womanly features, in very sexual depictions. I don't understand the appeal, and don't want to understand the appeal. As far as general anime like Altered Carbon, or Ghost in the Shell, I think that stuff is pretty cool. But that's not what I see a million posts of here on this platform, so I just added keywords to filter all of it out.
'71 here! We SO loved all the Robotech/Macros stuff back in the day. We'd never seen anything like it!
But yeah, I block about every anime group I find because it's either hyper-sexualized little girls or furry fucking.
So for me, it has nothing to do with it being Japanese in origin. Hell, we were the original weeaboos. And for that matter, my wife is half Japanese.
As for the rest of GenX? Obviously I can't speak for all of us, but I'm not sure I've heard anyone say, "I don't like that Japanese/Russian/communist art/entertainment." That would be weird.
