This has been the norm for all my working years.
- Yep. Best raise I ever got was 5%. Only beat inflation by moving up the ladder or, better, moving companies.
- Many, many decades worth of this, and yet people will still ardently defend inflationary monetary policy. Serious leopard face eating shit :/
  
  Inflation is just a scape-goat. The issue is a lack of worker bargaining power.
Yeah, welcome to IT where you basically have to change jobs every 2 years to get paid what you're actually worth. Your alternative is either no raise at all or something that amounts to a "COLA" that doesn't keep up with inflation, and is therefore a passive paycut.
