It is telling that, apparently, state Rep. Nicole Collier is the only Democrat who refused to sign "a permission slip to be under escort by the Texas Department of Public Safety." So, count 'em, one Democrat had the courage to say no.

The article does not mention what entity or law is compelling them to stay? Are we really at "might makes right" in the Texas Senate?

  That doesn't really paint a clear picture. Department of Public Safety is doing the detaining and "Republicans" is fairly nebulous. What law gives the Department of Public Safety the right to force Texas state representatives to accept a police escort? What about detaining them in the congressional building? Who said she could sleep in her office? On who's authority?

Collier and dozens of other House Democrats who returned to the Capitol on Monday received a Texas-sized welcome from their supporters as they walked from the rotunda into the House chamber minutes before the House session began around noon.
Sounds like she and her colleagues got what they wanted out of the situation so what's the problem? They came back to give the Republicans the quorum that they need to pass the redistricting after putting on a good show to keep up the kayfabe. If she really wanted out she could just pull the fire alarm or have one of her aides let her out.

  The session is scheduled for Wednesday, if you had read the article, so maybe stop throwing your hands up in defeat before anything has even fucking happened.

  I did read the whole article, so im not sure what you think I missed. Dems say this is "phase two" where they try to block things in Texas courts, the very same courts Republicans bring every national issue to because judges side with them 100% of the time?
  Why stop "phase one" since it actually accomplished something by preventing the vote? Now they'll pass the vote, redraw the district lines, and dems will expect an "attaboy" for pretending like they actually accomplished something when their cases get thrown out of court making this whole exercise entirely pointless. Did they think Republicans would just forget all about this if they delayed it for a week until just after the redistricting passed the Texas senate? Please.
  This is just more kayfabe. They're putting on a show for all of us while they work together to pass this garbage both in Texas and the rest of the nation. It's interesting that you want to pick an attitude with me to defend the people robbing you of your nation and its future. Maybe you should redirect that anger toward the people who keep 'losing' to Republicans on purpose.
