Judge blocks Ken Paxton from shutting down Beto O'Rourke's political group

An El Paso judge has issued a restraining order against Attorney General Ken Paxton in his effort to shutter Beto O’Rourke’s political organization, which the Texas Republican has accused of bribery by helping Democrats flee the state earlier this month to block redistricting.

Judge Annabell Perez wrote in a ruling Tuesday that Paxton was singling out one organization for targeted enforcement based solely on that organization’s protected constitutional activity. Perez also accused Paxton, who is running for U.S. Senate, of going after O’Rourke because he may also run for that office.
