The US Undersecretary of State, Christopher Landau, says "appropriate action" will be taken against "foreigners who glorify violence".
In a post on X, Landau says he has been "disgusted" to see comments on social media "praising, rationalising or making light" of the killing of Charlie Kirk and those who "glorify violence and hatred" are "not welcome visitors" to the country.
He says he has directed consular officials to "undertake appropriate action" and tells his followers "to bring such comments by foreigners to my attention so that the State Department can protect the American people".
In a response to a tweet, Landau then says he will direct consular officials to monitor the comments to his post.

- That's one perspective. On Lemmy alone I've seen various posts naming the specific individuals for assassination, citing specifics about how to do it, and inciting violence within those threads towards people of opposing political views. I don't think it's unreasonable to take these threats seriously.
- Seems to be what the text says... and let's not forget the US president is not afraid of economical or military action.
  My best guess is that the text is a misrepresentation, because Trump's speech was completely focused on exterminating people inside the US borders. But without that context, yes, looks like it's about every other country.
I'm American, and I will continue to shit talk and joke about Kirk and any fascist who meets the same fate. Fuck your feelings to the fuck your feelings crowd.

I'm posting stuff now that it's banned for foreigners. I was keeping the least sympathetic thoughts quiet, but not anymore. Gonna celebrate 9/10 every year too, let's get a national holiday going.
And this is why I switched my registration back to Libertarian and I’m left leaning Libertarian. I don’t want any association with the Democratic party. Having the President blame the Dems with no evidence over Kirk could make this a Franz Ferdinand style incident into a political war in our country.
I won’t mourn him but you can’t kill an ideology. I worry more about the fallout of this and counter reaction from the right…
