Okay, so I'm here on kbin.social. And I see that it's artemis.camp only until 0.2.1 comes out.
Should I just come back in a bit to use my established account? Or is 0.2.1 going to take like 3-12 months so I might as well just make an artemis.camp account?
12If I HAD to estimate, I would say it'll be about 6-8 weeks until the API is fully merged. So closeish to 2-3 months. But, I really don't want to estimate.
I doubt it will be less than 2 weeks. But it could be as short as 2-3 weeks.
The API is being written & tested (as in unit tests written) & reviewed (as in code review) ENTIRELY by volunteers, and the important thing is that it works, and is secure. So it will take how long it takes.

When I'm lounging, I've been opening up kbin.social first always, and when the content runs out I rotate between youtube / instagram / reddit. I'll try out kbin -> artemis -> other for a bit, to give it a solid chance!

Its all mostly dependant on when the other Kbin instances add the API. As the developer made it work on her specific instance for now for testing

Second, is artemis.camp going to be a permanent instance for /kbin, or is it only for the duration of the beta? I ask because I have actually taken a liking to it! If it remains a default instance for Artemis, I can really see it becoming one of the dominant instances for /kbin.

That is the plan, yes! I am not sure if it will stay the default way that users browse the app or the workflow will change to having you immediately pick an instance to browse via once the api is fully supported.

The app is brilliant! What I'm noticing though, is that we're missing some mags and subs (randomly, no pattern to it) across all instances on artemis.camp.
2Make sure they are federated magazines as well. It doesn't ust auto-populate all of lemmy.world, the magazine has to be "requested" to show.
1The thing is I was going through my sub list on kbin to sub back to the same things - artemis.camp could not show results for mags from both kbin.social and lemmy.world, among other instances.

I can't register on artemis.camp. The confirmation email has an expiry. It went into my spam folder and I didn't notice it until I woke up this morning and there doesn't seem to be a way to resend the confirmation email.

1I did.....and I was literally forced to sign up for an account here just to test it. I mean it's a great app (and I get that no one else has your API) but It's quite bizarre to be able to take advantage of federating with zero other instances across the fediverse. 🥱

0That’s…not what a walled garden is. It’s volunteer-driven development, something that will be available in 6-8 weeks is NOT a walled garden, which is something created by companies to keep you within their ecosystem so they can capture more revenue by you spending more time there. You had to do something technical but free (and also run by the author) to test a beta of an unreleased so-far free app in advance—no one forced you to do anything.
