Craig Robertson, 75, was shot inside his home in Provo on Wednesday after the FBI showed up at his door after he made threats against President Joe Biden and other Democrats online.

That's the thing with abusers in general - they are manipulators, and that applies not only to their victim, but to everyone in their life. Sure, many lack the control and let the mask slip (with or without the help of any substances like drugs or alcohol), but many more are able to keep everyone around them completely oblivious to how sinister they actually are. I would say with few exceptions, almost anyone in your life could turn out to be doing some really terrible stuff.
E: there is also a specific side to that that this story touches on and that's ableism, and how abusers often take on the role of carer (and/or martyr, if they didn't have a choice) because that not only gives them access to a vulnerable person, it also gives them the halo of a "good person" that shields them from a lot.

3If you read the article it sounds a little more complicated than just this being a homicidal asshole or that he was going out guns blazing. A huge no knock raid for something like this should at least give people reading this some pause. This seems to happen a lot more than it should.
