Boomslang = tree snake in Dutch and I assume Afrikaans

5ReplyDefinitely an Afrikaaner word. It's also the name of an elevated bridge in the Kirstenbosch botanical gardens in Cape Town that goes through trees. It looks like and is named after the snake!
