Daihatsu, the Japanese automaker owned by Toyota, has halted production after admitting it falsified data in safety tests for its vehicles for 30 years.
I wonder if this affects North American models. The IIHS has the Toyota Prius listed as Top Safety Pick+, and I wonder if those test results were tampered with.
We're talking about vehicles that aren't sold in North America and safety tests that they were self reporting. North American testing is independent from the manufacturers.
No Daihatsu model is or was sold in North America under Toyota branding or otherwise. All models sold in North America with a Daihatsu equivalent were manufactured by Toyota with a Daihatsu branding.
