I'm pretty sure the original gold rush was also an environmental disaster that destroyed agriculture and introduced mercury contamination to the waterways, so this may be a bit of a false dichotomy.
14ReplySee that was my first thought. The two things don't have to be mutually exclusive. In fact, I'd say deep sea mining will be both!
