An automod is making posts asking for moderators in subs where the mods have either been purged or left reddit on their own accord. The predictable result is a flood of copypasted applications from bots.
According to the /r/ModCoord thread, those are humans, kind of - the first one was a friend of the only active former mod that had an AI write that text for the lulz and posted it. The second was someone that copied it, hoping for exactly this result. And then, with two identical posts, the memelords took over.
I wonder if there are real users among those who actually are long term subscribers. Because the idea of the users uniformly organizing and doing the same task like ants has a certain appeal.
To clarify these are not bots but users expressing their opinion in this fashion. The r/modcoord thread where I saw this has some comments with the background.
