In 2007, after one of their gorillas, Bokito, escaped and attacked a women who stared at him every day, the Rotterdam Zoo started handing out glasses that tricked the gorillas to avoid stare
  • That's certainly how it comes across when you claim species don't have inherent value. Why would we bother to preserve and protect something that's valueless? You may have meant something else, but judging by the downvotes nobody else is getting your intended meaning either.

TIL that undefeated heavyweight champion Rocky Marciano’s punch was tested by Boxing Illustrated in 1963, and found to have more explosive energy than an armour piercing bullet.
  • Not that surprising when you think about it. Bullets operate on the principle of focusing force into an extremely small area, and armor piecing bullets just take that a step further by not deforming the moment they impact without adding any extra force. A heavy punch with the weight of an entire heavyweight behind it has so much more force than the few grams of mass a bullet has.

'Who lives in a house like this?'
  • It's definitely a medical room like the other commentor said. Most likely for somebody with long term limited mobility. Everything they need within 5 minutes of slow moving. I've had relatives who would have lived in rooms like this if they could have.

2024: The Year Linux Dethrones Windows on the Desktop – Are You Ready?
  • Yeah, honestly given the time this has been at play I’m surprised nobody has tried to do that type of full control integration besides Google. Given how well ChromeOS and especially Android worked as platforms why hasn’t… I don’t know, Valve? Adobe? Apple, even? tried to create a major desktop PC take on Linux that does have the type of support and sensible UX you want out of the box?

2024: The Year Linux Dethrones Windows on the Desktop – Are You Ready?
  • I agree. However if you look through the other comments in here, you'll see a LOT more examples of stuff that fall into the "it just doesn't work" category instead. And most of them are a lot more obvious to casual / new users. Those would be the ones that really require priority if Linux is ever to become mainstream.

2024: The Year Linux Dethrones Windows on the Desktop – Are You Ready?
  • Because, please don't make that recommendation to anybody else. Of all the places for somebody to start contributing to open source, linux is probably among the top in complexity. And if it's a new user, as per the original topic of this post, and they can't figure out their issue from the million guides online, you're just ensuring they make a speedy return to windows.

  • Still in Act 1, so no spoilers please.

I found out that if you have the Idol of Silvanus in your inventory and transfer it between characters while in sight of the Strange Ox, the entire herd aggros and attacks you. Cue the speculation!

Edit: Did some testing, apparently all the tieflings react the same way, so it's not some scripted event for the ox :(

I've been hearing for years that artificial gems (diamonds, rubies, moissanite, etc) cost a 'fraction' of the real thing. Is this true? If so, where can I as a consumer buy a handful of this stuff?

Note that I don't want jewellery-grade gems, I realise that would cost a lot simply due to rejects and labour to cut / polish. I just want stuff I can mess around with for hobbies and crafts.

    Also, rice!

Edit: This issue seems to be happening only in certain views. I can confirm this is happening in cards, and not in slides
