  • Headed down the coast, and competed with the tourists. While it was absolutely insane, I'm kind of glad I went, it was super lovely and warm out.

    Little picture of my outing-

    • That's bewdiful. Just want to sit and absorb that restorative view.

      • That's pretty much what I got very sunburnt doing! I threw off my shoes, and like most tropically raised Australians living in/visiting the south walked into water and immediately froze to death when I forgot sea water is not warm here.

    • Look at that blue water, so pretty

  • Roast chooken is done. I made a glaze with kumquat marmalade , garlic, sesame oil, chili and soy sauce. It smells delicious.

  • We are playing charades and my word was wombat. My actions of shitting out square poo was award winning.

    • That would have been interesting to say the least.

I guess those wooden blocks or Lego might come in handy at some point.

In other news Aussies doing badly in the test match at the moment :(

      • Bunching up and crawling on the carpet, they guessed an animal. As soon I demonstrated a square shooting out my bum, they guessed wombat!

  • cats have had second breakfast

    time for second sleep

effects of codiene have finally worn off, no more rando bad dreams

  • Ah going wakeboarding tomorrow, haven't been since the Before Times so I imagine I'm going to be sore at on Sunday.

I just wish my fam wouldn't organise it so last minute, but it's hard when the weather is as fickle as it is

    • Last time I went wakeboarding (maybe 10 yrs ago) it ruined me. Really fun though.

      RIP your arms :(

      • I love it, been doing it since I was a kid with my aunts, uncles, cousins, and Dad. My cousins are all overseas now though, so I reckon I can get a good sesh in. I'm hoping my muscle memory is still intact, I'm worried I won't even be able to get up hahaha!

  • I now have clean walls in the bedroom and bathroom.

Before I started I consulted with Google, and found a site with detailed wall cleaning advice. Apparently I was supposed to vacuum the walls, wipe them over with a dry dust cloth, put down plastic sheeting taped to the skirting board to protect the floor from drips, spot clean any marks with a concentrated cleaner, wash the full walls with a wet cloth and mild cleaner, wipe down the walls with plain water to rinse off any residue, then dry the walls with a towel. Well worth the small amount of effort, and I only need to do that every couple of months. Apparently.

I did not do most of those things.

    • All I do is dust the wall,. Get a bucket of warm soapy water and a textured cloth. Wring it out and start at the bottom of the wall, working up. Dry as I go with an old flannel.

  • Can I use Buddhism like a Sovereign citizen? I'm sorry officer, there is no self to fine, "I" do not exist.

  • Getting fingerprint powder residue off my front door is a multi stage process. I've gone through scans of paper towel and have progressed to a face washer

    • The powder is carbon based and electrostatically charged a bit. So hand sanitizer may work in conjunction with face washer.

    • Magic sponge? Packing tape? Vodka? In case you run out of ideas.

  • Feel the need to stare at the beach. Heading down the cost a bad idea today? The weather's not super warm, so I'm of two minds about how busy it'll be.

  • Can't sleep despite feeling gross. Watched Hirokazu Koreeda's Monster. That was one of his best by far, much less of the cloying sentimentality that always crops up at the end of his films and tarnishes the emotional impact of otherwise sensitively observed characters. Those kid actors were amazing, too. I was fully engrossed. Can't believe I didn't watch this earlier. Highly recommend. I also want to visit the town it was set in, so beautiful..

Back to attempting sleep and no dystopian nightmares tonight, thanks.

  • Got super held up today but managed to help out a bit more at my aunt's. Yeah she's definitely on the hoarder spectrum for sure. We didn't do the spices but the upstairs room that has all sorts of junk from over the decades. It's time for her kids to come and sort some of their dumped stuff too because she doesn't have the heart to throw any of her kids things away.

I've also inhaled more dust in 5 hours than I probably have for 5 months, amazed I didn't explode in a fit of sneezing.

e: definitely makes me feel better that I've been somewhat parsimonious with accumulating stuff at home, even if that tendency often means I just don't start new projects or hobbies.

e2: going to watch Lee Chang-dong's Burning tonight after a shower to get all this dust and sweat off me. Time also for ye olde melatonin because I'm a bit over going to bed at 1-2am every night. Must not get too deep in NEET hole

  • The DT knows all: any recommendations for one of those GPS trackers you stick on your car? Bit overwhelmed by the choices and options.

  • I tried out GoGet today so I could do an IKEA Run and generally catch up on a few things. It worked well. Bit expensive (I probably could have got delivery for the cost of hire) but was nice to get out and wander round and not have to worry about how to get things home. I will use it again I reckon

    • Have a look at popcar, if there's one in your area. By far the cheapest carshare I've seen (esp the $59/day rate incl 200 km). GoGet is hideously expensive but has the best locations. I have only ever used it if I have absolutely no other choice and ubers are more expensive

      • I'm in the inner west and there's no popcars near me. Only Flexicar or GoGet out here and they are both expensive. Popcars might be worth a longer train trip if I wanted something for the weekend. Thanks for the tip tho!

  • i need a new watch, I could get a crappy one from the local jeweller for $200 or the same crappy one on aliexpress for $40. Decisions.

    • I got a crappy fitness watch with a step counter for $20, which has gotten me walking more.

    • I love Lorus watches. Stylish but affordable and last forever. My last watch I wore for 10 years before I got my garmin.

  • Wakeboarding got cancelled, sadly, as one of the drivers has gastro. Hoping they feel better soon.

In other news, the other day, I went to a crystal shop (Sacred Gems). I don't subscribe to the new age belief that gems and minerals have energy or power, but fuck I love them. I go full Magpie "must have shiny rock!"

Here is the garnet I bought, I edited it a bit to be more indicative of the colours I see in the light. My phone seems to edit photos automatically and darken them? (I need to fiddle with the settings).

  • There are a lot of bangs outside. I guess we're celebrating being Australian by blowing things up. Fortunately Mr Woof and Miss Meow don't seem concerned.

  • Before I apply my newest decals I'm going to do some wall cleaning. It has not been done for a very long time, I am expecting to remove an alarming amount of dirt 😬

    • The worst thing is to clean a little patch, it makes the rest of the walls look filthy

      • That's why I kept putting it off, there is a lot of wall and I knew once I started I had to do the whole thing. It wasn't as bad as I feared in the end, but I really should do the living area next which is probably at least twice as much wall as what I did today.

  • aliexpress is such a temptation

should I get the $300 esterbrook pen to fit my gold calligraphy nibs or the $15 jinhao pens. They both use the same ink cartridge anyway 🤷‍♀️
