  • Feeling much better. Inventory of my house turned up an abandoned bag that isn’t mine. Got my iPad and wallet back…and some paperwork with a name and address on it.

Just got off the phone with the crime scene people. They want that paperwork

  • BE WITNESS TO MY HOMEGROWN POTATO

I've never planted them they must've come in from compost.

  • Headed down the coast, and competed with the tourists. While it was absolutely insane, I'm kind of glad I went, it was super lovely and warm out.

    Little picture of my outing-

  • Doing my part by driving around blasting The Beards with the window down. Just got home. I got that Murray St ice cream AND they had a boysenberry one so I grabbed that too. Also party pies and sausage rolls.

God DAMN it I just now realised I forgot ice magic.

Anyway.. I also got chocolate. Don't shop if you haven't eaten since breakfast the day before.

  • i want to be with people but i am already over-socialized

it would be nice if i could be a cat sunbathing under the table for the rest of the day

  • Roast chooken is done. I made a glaze with kumquat marmalade , garlic, sesame oil, chili and soy sauce. It smells delicious.

  • Bathroom decals are up.

    Decals

The cats are on the sliding door, so you can only see them when the door is closed. The butterflies are covering up some corrosion spots on the mirror, and I do not have much faith that they will all stay stuck.

  • We are playing charades and my word was wombat. My actions of shitting out square poo was award winning.

  • I now have clean walls in the bedroom and bathroom.

Before I started I consulted with Google, and found a site with detailed wall cleaning advice. Apparently I was supposed to vacuum the walls, wipe them over with a dry dust cloth, put down plastic sheeting taped to the skirting board to protect the floor from drips, spot clean any marks with a concentrated cleaner, wash the full walls with a wet cloth and mild cleaner, wipe down the walls with plain water to rinse off any residue, then dry the walls with a towel. Well worth the small amount of effort, and I only need to do that every couple of months. Apparently.

I did not do most of those things.

  • Urrrgh. Why am I awake?

effects of codiene have finally worn off, no more rando bad dreams

  • Oi get off the fuckin' clothesline. You'll break it.

  • Ah going wakeboarding tomorrow, haven't been since the Before Times so I imagine I'm going to be sore at on Sunday.

I just wish my fam wouldn't organise it so last minute, but it's hard when the weather is as fickle as it is

  • Can I use Buddhism like a Sovereign citizen? I'm sorry officer, there is no self to fine, "I" do not exist.

  • Honestly I couldn't care what date Australia Day is held. But I can't help but think no matter what date is chosen some people won't be happy. Because changing the date doesn't change history.

If someone doesn't believe Australia as it stands now is valid so to speak, any attempt to celebrate it on any day is going to stick in their craw.

  • I'm watching a guy sketch in charcoal pencil and am like... damn. I doubt I'd be able to successfully sharpen one of those let alone wield it. Eh. It's nice to watch other people be skilled at things

  • Getting fingerprint powder residue off my front door is a multi stage process. I've gone through scans of paper towel and have progressed to a face washer

  • Feel the need to stare at the beach. Heading down the cost a bad idea today? The weather's not super warm, so I'm of two minds about how busy it'll be.

  • How often do you guys wash your drink bottles? Google tells me I'm meant to wash it daily, which is a bit concerning because I do it about 30x less than that 😬

I usually go based on when it starts to smell weird. I usually go on the (really flawed) philosophy of "we didn't evolve for millions of years just to die because of an infrequently cleaned drink bottle" but I feel concerned because I'm usually not that far behind what's recommended

  • Okay, I will admit that the last time I was a student was pre Y2K. But I just had to complete a LLN ASCF level 3 and WTF is that shit?

  • Season 4 of True Detective is fantastic so far. Jodie Foster is such a pro.

  • Can't sleep despite feeling gross. Watched Hirokazu Koreeda's Monster. That was one of his best by far, much less of the cloying sentimentality that always crops up at the end of his films and tarnishes the emotional impact of otherwise sensitively observed characters. Those kid actors were amazing, too. I was fully engrossed. Can't believe I didn't watch this earlier. Highly recommend. I also want to visit the town it was set in, so beautiful..

Back to attempting sleep and no dystopian nightmares tonight, thanks.

  • I just had this weird urge to bake a cake but then I've remembered it's a public holiday so I can't get cake making stuff. Maybe Saturday.

I'd love some fresh warm cake.

  • The DT knows all: any recommendations for one of those GPS trackers you stick on your car? Bit overwhelmed by the choices and options.

  • I don't normally drink two nights in a row. Wait, I did at Christmas. Disregard that. Cheers 🍺

  • Got super held up today but managed to help out a bit more at my aunt's. Yeah she's definitely on the hoarder spectrum for sure. We didn't do the spices but the upstairs room that has all sorts of junk from over the decades. It's time for her kids to come and sort some of their dumped stuff too because she doesn't have the heart to throw any of her kids things away.

I've also inhaled more dust in 5 hours than I probably have for 5 months, amazed I didn't explode in a fit of sneezing.

e: definitely makes me feel better that I've been somewhat parsimonious with accumulating stuff at home, even if that tendency often means I just don't start new projects or hobbies.

e2: going to watch Lee Chang-dong's Burning tonight after a shower to get all this dust and sweat off me. Time also for ye olde melatonin because I'm a bit over going to bed at 1-2am every night. Must not get too deep in NEET hole

  • We've gone into a 5th set here? C'mon Zverev beat this cunt. 🎾

  • Okay... next time I'll be less heavyhanded and draw the same thing as the guy because I kind of went off doing my own thing there. It's recognisably a mug but not a good one (perspective of the top doesn't quite match the rest of it) and the unevenly sharpened tip made it difficult to stroke down thin even layers. So it turned out harsher and was hard to gradually shade things to the right shape as I went. Note to self.

But one thing I found to be a problem was not my fault. I bought a cheap portable easel intended to help my posture using a limited space but the bottom ledge thing that the sketchbook rests on actually projects out enough to be in the way of my hand and my pencil.

It's actually inhibiting my ability to draw on the bottom half of the page if I'm not using the 'writing' position (which in this exercise I am not meant to). When holding the charcoal overhand and vertically while gliding my fingernails over the paper the end of my charcoal pencil is actually hitting the damn ledge. I have to turn my hand sideways to get the bottom half of the page.

The bummer? I had already seen this could be restrictive and flipped that piece so the lip on the edge was downwards, trying to make it less annoying. I wonder if I could get a piece of thinner flatter balsawood or something to make a new rest but I don't own a drill for the bolt holes.

Similar issue with anything that has that rest really. I wonder if I'm doing something very obvious wrong or the art guy just has a much larger easel and canvas space to work with so he doesn't have to use all of it/the awkward half

  • i need a new watch, I could get a crappy one from the local jeweller for $200 or the same crappy one on aliexpress for $40. Decisions.

  • I tried out GoGet today so I could do an IKEA Run and generally catch up on a few things. It worked well. Bit expensive (I probably could have got delivery for the cost of hire) but was nice to get out and wander round and not have to worry about how to get things home. I will use it again I reckon

  • aliexpress is such a temptation

should I get the $300 esterbrook pen to fit my gold calligraphy nibs or the $15 jinhao pens. They both use the same ink cartridge anyway 🤷‍♀️

  • Time for Pokemon concierge! Cat is fed and entertained, pizza is ready.

I've never played Pokemon before but this show looks cute as hell lol

  • Sup y'all

  • Before I apply my newest decals I'm going to do some wall cleaning. It has not been done for a very long time, I am expecting to remove an alarming amount of dirt 😬

  • There are a lot of bangs outside. I guess we're celebrating being Australian by blowing things up. Fortunately Mr Woof and Miss Meow don't seem concerned.

  • Wakeboarding got cancelled, sadly, as one of the drivers has gastro. Hoping they feel better soon.

In other news, the other day, I went to a crystal shop (Sacred Gems). I don't subscribe to the new age belief that gems and minerals have energy or power, but fuck I love them. I go full Magpie "must have shiny rock!"

Here is the garnet I bought, I edited it a bit to be more indicative of the colours I see in the light. My phone seems to edit photos automatically and darken them? (I need to fiddle with the settings).
