  • It's bin night tonight and there is a lot of disagreement in the street about which bin is due for collection. A lot of people will be disappointed tomorrow when their recycling is not collected.

    • A triumph of hope over reality. If enough of us put out our recycling, maybe the council will pick it up anyway ...

    • Seems like we have the same bin cycle. Mine are out and so is the recycling bin.

If occasionally forget which one to put out but my neighbour reminds me of I get it wrong.

      • How shit is a Friday morning bin collection though? Have to keep the weekend's rubbish for almost an entire week. :( I miss Monday morning collections, they were the best.

  • Boss just told me I'm getting a sidekick to train. A fresh, young, uncorrupted-by-life law student. I smell the subtle scent of nepotism, as the kid is the nephew twice removed of his dad's first wife. Time will tell how this goes.

    • Presumably in a legal field the advice to ‘have fun corrupting them’ would be misplaced.

May your sidekick be more Cousin It than Neil Kellerman.

      • Law students will inevitably be corrupted - it is in the nature of the beast. Will attempt to preserve their innocence as long as possible (heh heh). No I'm not crossing my fingers behind my back.

    • Sidekicks are awesome.

  • I had another incredibly vivid dream, but no dystopian elements this time, thank $deity. Because I just spent an hour typing it out here it is.

Anyway, I think I should give my cousin in Sydney a call to catch up. 8/10 dream. Better get on with the day now...

    • My dreams are so boring in comparison :(

    • So cool. I love the way you describe absolutely everything in your dream.

      • Every detail feels meaningful because it had to be generated entirely by my brain alone. I rejoice in the fact that no matter how dull or depressed I might be during the day, my brain is still capable of rich imagination and deep emotional connection. It might not be real but it was real in some way to my brain and worth learning from

  • Spoke to my mum because it's her b day today and her leg is healing nicely due to a little skin treatment on there. My brother had his gallbladder out just before Christmas and then was readmitted because he was turning a shade of yellow that no one could figure out why. Anyway he's doing better so she's happy. It's good to hear better news because there was a time where I was dreading calling her.

  • slaps knees

    okay. enough decadence.

today's goal: give the house a basic cleaning, reply last week's email, take a walk and buy a little food
optional: fill out a form / look up a set of instructions / update my CV

  • Have you ever noticed that phone chats on tv and movies always have perfect spelling? ( unless it's l33t or whatever the equivalent is these days )

    • and they type just once. they don't need to type, backspace, try again, STILL WRONG

  • Aww. Just found Zooks asleep in one of those storage cubes on top of my gym clothes.

  • Despite funny work shenanigans, this morning is going far far slower than I'd like... This week being my first week in the office after being sick and still having lingering little bits has me mega pooped.

Edit - a very important word lmao

  • If you enjoyed the silliness of the Kingsmen movies, Argylle might be for you. Or if you just want a couple of hours of enjoying a fine-as-hell Bryce Dallas Howard doing her thing.

    • Did you enjoy it?

From the trailer I saw it looked ok.

      • I'd say I enjoyed it. It's hard not to enjoy a movie with Sam Rockwell being full Sam Rockwell in it though.

  • Can anyone tell me how much packaging material Ikea generally use with their products? I've got a bunch of things coming on Saturday and am wondering how much packaging I'm going to end up wrangling.

    • the necessary cardboard. barely any filler.

      • Awesome. I can use some extra cardboard to go under some mulch in the garden to keep the weeds down in a few spots 🙂

    • Lots of flattish cardboard, some strapping, the occasional foam corner. Plastic bags on any fabric stuff usually have recycle bin appropriate numbers on them.

      • That is good to hear, I was a bit worried I'd signed myself up for a bin full of plastics.

  • Oh no, thr little bittergourds that I thought weren't bitter, are in fact bitter :( I picked firm, hard, green ones but actually should've gone for the softer and darker ones. Ideally they would be turning orange.

    • I've never seen nor heard of those in my 40 years of time on this planet. Goes to show you can always be amazed.

    • I've seen these in the market, but wondered what to do with them. Thanks for elucidating.

  • I tried mug cake for the first time tonight. It was ok. Could do with a bit of cream or icecream next time.
