Hindsight is 20/20, but I think this whole situation vis a vis Meta and Threads should underscore for the fediverse dev community that we really, really need to treat privacy as a first-order concern.
It will be interesting to see how it plays out. Specially if the largest instance lemmy.world decides to federate and invite them everywhere.
Im not naive and I understand meta will try their best to take over the fediverse and brand it as something they came up with. But tech people should be smart and at least try and protect against that imo.
