I'll leave it up until the end of next sunday. Plenty of time to deliberate.
There will also be a moderator voting panel weighing in on mod choices. Both the community and mod choice will be announced together, shortly after voting is closed.
Thanks to everyone who entered, and everyone who votes.
I felt disappointed because I was very much planning on participating but I got sick at an out of town friend's house and had to stay away from my home (and thus my main painting station) for the week of the competition. I'll still post my Flash Git some other time this month.
How strict is the base size requirement? I just picked up a Leviathan Captain for a conversion, but he has a bigger base. It also rules out characters like Helbrecht.
Perhaps for future competitions the defining factor for small models should be the "infantry" keyword? Between scale creep and GW's arbitrary basing decisions it can be hard to define model size by the base.
Would this fella be allowed? He's a Warboss in Mega Armour that I have been working on for to long and I'm hoping this will give me the motivation to finish him off.
This is him on a 40mm base, but as I am going to be using him to play 3rd or OPR he may end up on something even smaller.
Extended explanation: I am aware current warbosses come on 50mm bases, but previous models came on 40mm. The competition allows legal models from any edition and this sculpt is scaled to sit on a 40mm base making it a reasonable proxy of the old 40mm base Warboss sculpts.
Thanks, I have finished sculpting the extra bits and given him a coat of primer. The only problem I have is that I can't decide what colour to paint his armour.
A daemon engine is too big of a boi. I am trying to keep the competition accessible for people just entering squad leaders. Hopefully there will be future competitions with more categories.
OK, I came up with a new plan, and I want to make sure I'll be within the base size rules.
I'm working on a Celestial Lions conversion using the Sgt Castus model. It will be based on a 40mm base and will not be using his necron scenery. Sgt Castus is the same size as other Primaris marines, but he shipped with a 50mm base. I want to confirm I'll be OK to enter him in the contest as long as he's on that 40mm base instead.
He’s a Primaris and plenty of other Primaris in the same kind of armor are on 40mm, so at most of a stretch he’d be an acceptable proxy, and in general his actual size isn’t ridiculous.
I don't play any warhammer game, so I don't really know which ones the leaders are. I'm guessing captains, lieutenants, primarchs, named characters all work for space marines. But is a Neurotyrant a leader? What about a Neurothorpe? Is a chaplain a leader?
Actually, even better. Does the games-workshop website have a filter for leadership minis, or is there a list somewhere?
Neurotyrant would be too big, this is capped at models on 40mm bases max. I don't think there's an easy filter but you can look at your chosen faction's free index and look for models that are listed as leaders. Chaplains are leaders
Sure. Synapse creature, which makes it thematically appropriate, and it’s an HQ choice which reenforced that role.
Neuotyrant
Comes on a 50mm base, which makes it too big for this competition. The goal of the guidelines was to have models of relatively comparable sizes. A modern Primarch model is similarly disqualified as it’s just too huge.
Filter
Not really, this is more of a theme that does require a little bit of good will and common sense as a guideline. The goal is that even a lowly sergeant model which comes packed in an infantry kit is acceptable.
