  • Thanks for all the congratulations on the unit acquisition yesterday. I'm still settling into believing it's real, especially after two let-downs.
It's going to be strange not obsessively checking the real estate sites and doing the rounds of the OFIs every Saturday.
Now to continue with Operation Sort Shit and decide what to take and what to dispose of.

    • A temporary storage space like Storage King is your friend here I reckon. I found when I moved, that I just put everything I wasn't sure about in that space, and only put stuff in the new place that I KNEW I wanted there. The doubtfuls were sorted later and a lot went to next generation family and to charity etc as I just didn't have room for them in the new house. Ended up with the new place having ONLY stuff I wanted to keep. This really really helped my decision making on the other stuff. It also helped that the storage space was just up the road from a Vinnies which dramatically eased the actual disposal. Worth considering as a tactic.

      • I am lazy. I'd still have that storage space three years later. Paying rent on top of mortgage.

  • My haul of little tomatoes from the community garden to spice up my sandwiches.

    • I love putting these in a pasta and when I bite them, they go pop in my mouth. So much fun.

      • They're pretty small sadly, been cutting them in half and popping them inside a sandwich.

I don't think the ones I have will go very far with pasta.

They are yummy and sweet though.

  • Official first day of term for my Uni courses today. Time to knuckle down and get back into the studying.

  • Listed some old PC parts on Gumtree, the first five minutes I get the standard "I want to purchase give me your email so I can send you a phishing link" quickly followed by an account called "support" with the gumtree logo telling me I had a pending offer and to just provide my email.

This was then followed up with a second "support" account trying a different scam, and one person doing the "I will send a courier" bit.

    Gumtree is so shit.

  • When writing a report if you need the word sixthly switch to bullet points!

    • I love this and it's exactly why I love my slow cooker. Fry up a bit of meat and onion. Chuck it in with some other stuff and the end of the day I have meals. Absolute bliss.

    • That sounds awesome. I wonder if I can use my rice cooker in the same way. It's a really good rice cooker with many settings.

  • A young brushtail just tried to have a go at Mr Woof through the glass of the back door! It was full on banging on the outside of the door right in front of him. Mr Woof is now outside doing a full security patrol while Miss Meow supervises from inside.

  • I must have been snoring, Ted jumped on my tummy while I was asleep, I got a terrible shock. 😴😮

  • I'm going to Aldi. What coffee beans should I get for my plunger?

If it helps I like strong cappuccinos and I use the #13 calabrese pods for my Aldi pod machine because the #14 intensio is disgusting.

    • I ended up with this because there was not much choice.

    • Any of the South American ones. Brazil, Colombia or the special blend. Essentially any of the 1 kg bean bags are good value for money, not the dark roasts though.

    • I guess it depends on what you like, I do like smooth and fruity blends but sometimes a dark one isn't too bad either.

    • The only ones I've tried are the Lazzio Medium beans in the white bag and they are excellent. I can't speak to the fancier looking ones. I should do a trip and pick up a fresh bag actually. I also prefer my coffee a bit stronger and the medium hits just right for me.

  • Hey all. Need some opinions on what I should do.

So today my health insurance policy got canceled automatically, which I didn’t know could happen, due to my payments lapsing.

I have 2 options, I can resume my old policy if I’m able to make a big enough or full payment (which I may not be able to meet).

2nd option is to take out a new policy within the next month.

There’s obviously differences between my old policy and the new policy depending on what I pick for extras and whatnot but I’m not sure what I’m losing out on and how much difference the limit are.

If I retain my old policy it could really strain my finances for awhile and if I’m able to do it at all.

If I don’t I won’t have to pay for the period I wasn’t covered and I’d be on a new plan and have to restart waiting periods.

In my life time I’ve only claimed on dental, optical and some prescription meds but not much else if that helps.

Happy to take some opinions about this, I have some time to deal with this, by end of next week.

    • I'd probably go with the new policy. Most of the waiting periods are only 2 months, it's only a few more major things that are longer, and the worst case scenario just involves you needing to be treated as a public instead of a private patient.

I would recommend you think about whether the extras is actually value for money - the maximum payment amounts make it hard to get your money's worth from those, you are probably better off putting the money the extras will cost into a savings account to pay for treatments.

      • I just spent 38 mins on hold to get more information and hung up.

Guess I’ll have to try again later this week. Already spent my entire lunch break on the line with them.

I guess I was more worried about what I’d lose with my main hospital cover and not so much my extras.

  • Just looked at the forecast. I have to pick my bike from bicycle hospital on my way home. I will melt, I think.
