7ReplyI do not get these exiting vim memes. I've been using vim for over 20 years and it was maybe difficult to remember for the first week, tops.
7ReplyAh, but have you used ed, the standard editor?
2Replyed, man!
man ed
! 2ReplyQuick search, it appears as though ed is a precursor to sed, which I use all the time. Both of which have a similar context and toolset to ex used in vim.
1ReplyI have not. But since I learned vi on Linux and Unix, it was using ex as it's 'personality'. ed is not something I have dug into.

7ReplyWhen i first started using linux and used vim i thought "wow this sucks but i guess its all i got for now"
Little did i know that Nano exists. Never again vim.
Never again.
4ReplyFunny hiw that's the same thing i went through but i actually switched back to vim (nvim to be exact) after nano
2ReplyDid you know nano supports syntax highlighting? For some reason it wasn't enabled by default on my first few linuxes. I don't know if it is nowadays.
