Clashes Erupt in Sweden's Third-Largest City After Another Quran Burning
Police in Malmo said they were pelted with rocks and dozens of cars were set on fire, including in an underground garage.
If they are gonna burn religious books, why not include more of them? Burn bibles, qurans, vedas, tanakhs, etc. Make the event more inclusive :)
25ReplyOstensibly, the reason is to protest islam specifically, IIRC. (or to be assholes. They could be just assholes. I haven't been paying too much attention.)
either way, burning everything else doesn't make sense. Especially when most people are going to be like "oh. Okay. whatever, dick."
9ReplyLike many shitty things in the world it appears to be incited by Russians https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/world/2023/jan/27/burning-of-quran-in-stockholm-funded-by-journalist-with-kremlin-ties-sweden-nato-russia

Muslims could stop Quran burning by just not reacting to the obvious acts of incitement
12ReplyIt’s weird. The Swedes are pretty tolerant.
Americans we can burn the Koran. It’s out right but it either never happens or people never riot over it.
I’d never burn one as I believe in respecting others. I’m an atheist but I’m not anti-religion.
1ReplyThe people burning it has mainly been a Danish right wing extremist and an Iraqi asylum seeker. Hardly any Swede.
25ReplyYeah, I'm all for calling every citizen and even permanent residents "a Swede" but none that have burned the Quran qualify for that label afaik.

It's not sweedes who are doing it. It just happens is sweeden.
A Christian man who immigrated from Iraq to Sweden stomped on a Koran then burnt it on June 28, 2023, in front of Stockholm’s largest mosque on the first day of the Muslim holiday of Eid.
He was denied citizenship, by the way.
18ReplySince he's from Iraq, I wonder about his motivation, if he had family killed by Muslim terrorists or something?

I'm definitely an antireligionist and I've never burned a book at all. I'm not even all that respectful, I just don't see the point.
