Ads in infotainment systems aren't "infrastructure," and enshittification of consumer electronics doesn't really have much to do with car-centricity. It pains me to say it, since opposing advertising and proprietary software are also issues near and dear to my heart, but this thread is off topic. I'm going to exercise my
blatant hypocrisy"moderator discretion" and choose not to remove it, but please try to hew a little closer to the community's stated purpose in the future.To reiterate: I very much do think this is an important issue to discuss. I just think that discussion is better had somewhere like !enshittification@lemmy.world, or a more generic technology or automotive community.

I guess there is the angle that distracting drivers of jeeps with pop up ads is dangerous for other drivers and pedestrians. Jeeps already have fairly poor visibility depending on the model, they ride high and often have oversized tires and accessories.

@FireRetardant @grue in the UK we're not even allowed billboards on motorways as they would be a distraction. Ads in the car sounds insane.

My understanding is the ads only show up when stopped and more like a notification box. Still ridiculous but could be worse i guess. I'd like to see more advertising laws here. Light up billboards that are basically tvs is way too distracting, especially at night. The human eye and brain are naturally drawn towards that light taking drivers eyes off the road, often subconsciously.
