Diablo 4's latest microtransaction controversy is a $30 portal recolor: "You can get Palworld for this price"
  • I an so sick of the “just don’t buy it” response to people complaining about increasingly shitty practices. It’s like if someone pisses in the far side of the pool and other people decide they like the warmth so they tell you just to stay over on the far side - The pool is still tainted, and maybe next time the pool cleaners decide not to use chlorine…

    Anon goes to a party
  • I feel like we’ve all been there; House-sitting a cousin’s house, invited a girl over. Cooked dinner for her, and showed her the guest bed she could sleep in. Went to my separate bed. She then says she’ll get lonely in there by herself so I get into her bed and spoon her falling asleep in record time. I’m not a smart man.

Lemmy, what are some of your "oh shit" work stories?
  • A milder story than some here:

Someone had accidentally sent an email to the whole company of 44,000 or so employees. Cue a bunch of emails -replying all- asking why they were receiving the email… followed by another wave of emails asking people to stop replying all.

Was a great popcorn moment, and made me laugh every time a new email came in.

New Zealand's central bank defends Maori language use
  • Damn, that’d suck if it goes ahead - as an Aussie who was very disappointed with the result of the recent referendum here, I really admire what NZ has done to integrate and champion Māori culture ☹️

Landlords Throw Party to Celebrate Being Able to Evict People Again
  • Yeah, you’re right in that governments aren’t exactly helping with the problem either - there’s a lot of wanting to have their cake and eat it too. I hope you don’t think I’m attacking you for owning a property btw - I’m frustrated at the system, especially in my country, where the laws aren’t changing to help people own homes or protect renters, because the ones making the laws usually have a strong investment in housing themselves

Landlords Throw Party to Celebrate Being Able to Evict People Again
  • Was the apartment bought with the intention to make profit? I understand what you’re saying, and maybe you inherited that apartment and it’s more effort than it’s worth. My overall concern is that as a whole, housing shouldn’t be seen through the lens of making someone else money - it should be a basic human right.

So surely you always have the option of just… not renting out a property?
