I think a good measure of whether something is moral is to imagine everyone doing it and consider if it would make the world a better or worse place.

In the U.S., most people probably don’t vote for a third party because they assume no one else will, so they worry their vote will be wasted. It’s a bit of a prisoner’s dilemma: if you vote and no one else does, you lose, but if everyone voted, everyone would benefit.

So, if someone does choose to vote third party, was it the right thing to do? Well, what if every voter acted this way? There’s a good chance the third party could win, and while it’s debatable, it’s reasonable to assume they might be a better choice than the other two.

Ranked-choice voting would solve this issue, by the way.

I feel Lemmy is a far kinder, more balanced community where you can have a polite discussion about stuff.

My experience has been much closer to what you described reddit to be. Lemmy is extremely unwelcoming of differing opinions.

Why?

Well yeah, I can see that the thread has received more replies than what I'm seeing.

Also, even if I did see their comments, I don't see how it contradicts my statement about how I don't care if they see mine.

I'm not necessarily against that either but personally I couldn't care less if a blocked person can see my posts and comments. There's even one commenting on this thread. What I use the feature for is to get them out of my sight. If they want to write me angry comments that I'll never see, then have at it.

As if the default Lemmy experience isn't a massive filter bubble in itself. I doubt hardly anyone here would want to federate with Twitter and Truth Social even though that would make your feed, in fact, less of an echo chamber. Hell, a huge number of inctances don't even federate with Hexbear, Lemmygrad or Threads.

I can already block entire instances along with every single user there. I don't see why I should care if that's what someone wants to do.

I haven’t seen that movie, but you’d need to hold the match there for a while. Inside the sprinkler head, there’s a small glass vial with liquid. When it heats up enough it expands, the glass breaks, releasing the water behind it.

I agree. Lemmy is the most unwelcoming social media platform I’ve ever been to. It’s why I no longer recommend it to anyone. People be like, “just leave Twitter,” but then don't have the tiniest bit of tolerance for views that even slightly differ from their own. This doesn’t just apply to the comments either - my highly curated feed, with over 500 of the most toxic users blocked, still mostly consists of people complaining. Look at me; I'm complaining too.
