Tim Walz says he's 'sick and tired' of prayers after Georgia school shooting
  • Exactly, people with serious problems need to be off of the streets.

Why do all the law-abiding sane people have to give away their rights when we already have ways to remove dangerous people from society.

  • I'm more anarchistic in personal beliefs but am willing to embrace social democrats to get some benefit.

The idea of the greatest social good for the largest group is more important than trusting everyone to follow the correct policies when given power. I also personally think that state power is incompatible with anarchist beliefs.

Who Stops a "Bad Guy With a Gun"?
  • Gun rights aren't for stopping active mass shooting events. Gun rights are to protect yourself and you small circle of family because the police are always too far away.

Active shootings are bad for regular people to try to stop because usually those people who do, end up being killed by the policemen they finally show up. A regular guy with a gun can never be expected to rush into a school to confront a shooter.

A regular armed citizen will be charged with a crime if they stop a school shooter or any other spree shooter in a gun free zone.

This data is disingenuous because they are plotting a unicorn event with a normal event to prove that Unicorns aren't helpful. The question doesn't make sense.

YSK: some common medications can make you more susceptible to heat exhaustion and heat stroke
  • Yea same here. I have to sit in front of my AC and bringing in the groceries makes me overheat so much I have to use cold water and the AC to stop it.

I grew up in deserts like the Mojave and used to be able to work in 115 degrees. Now I can't surpass 75 degrees.

    Kotaku being Kotaku
  • It really bugs me how every scandal co-ops the -gate from the Watergate scandal to try to give it more legitimacy.

The Hotel was the Watergate Hotel. There is no gate in Kotaku or Gamer. Just another fundamental ignorance of reality the media has come to.

  • Sorry to break it to you, but bypassing sections is a crime. You just proved his point. Sanctions are supposed to make life difficult for the people in sanctioned countries so that those people maybe start doing something to the person causing the problems.

It may be useful, but it was designed to facilitate criminal payments.

Microsoft's 'Recall' feature can't be uninstalled after all
  • I'm glad I just setup Linux two weekends ago. It was simple to install all of my hardware worked well. I only miss a couple of minor features like the LED software and my overclocking software.

And those really aren't that big of a deal since I haven't had a failure to play a game so far.

It was at least 20 years since I tried Linux, and the changes are wild. I didn't even choose a simple distro and haven't even had too difficult of a time.

Why don't more people use Linux? - DHH
  • I just installed Manjaro over my windows 10 drive and the effort so far has been way easier than I thought.

KDE Plasma reminds me a lot of WIn 10, and nearly everything I did on my windows system works under Linux without hassle. The only issue I had were certain technical things like overlooking my GPU and setting up my LED lights.

SITE CHANGED HEADLINE: Harris says she would appoint a Republican to her Cabinet if elected
  • He could ruin the VA by forcing deregulation and making the VA into another for-profit system. He could force the sale of VA Hospitals to investment bankers.

Just because a person is a veteran doesn't mean they want to keep the VA system whole. Does he even use the same healthcare that poor enlisted soldiers and sailors use?

Johnson pulled strings to get Trump into Arlington — and now the scandal is spreading
  • No, the parents were arrested for children being truant. One had too many unexcused absences because the child had sickle-cell anemia and the single mom had to spend a lot of time dealing with the court process.

It wasn't fines it was threatening jail and arrest. She kept people in overcrowded jails against the orders of the Supreme Court, because the county needed slaves for fire-fighting because prison firefighters cannot become wildfire firefighters when they are out of prison. She also has never pushed back against abusive police.

Her past as a tough on crime Attorney General has been recently glossed over and she won't speak on it or admit she made mistakes.

Microsoft formally deprecates the 39-year-old Windows Control Panel
  • Well I spent Sunday night installing Manjaro and so far so good. It's been almost 30 years since the last time I used Linux, and KDE Plasma is really easy to use.

I decided to wipe my Win 10 drive so there was no going back. I was able to install and play games like normal, and I even used the command line to pull and build the Mullvad VPN App from the Arch store, and sign the app certificate.

The best part was once I setup the steam libraries Steam pulled all the information from those drives and all my games that weren't on my Windows SSD were ready to go. All of my peripherals just worked and the Nvidia driver was fine.

I'm just missing some GOG Games, but Heroic should take care of that. Painless and simple.

It's amazing how much has changed in over 20 years.

  • I am glad I waited on dual boot since the recent patch broke that. So, now I'm looking for a good way to just go all in without losing too much data.

I really just need a stable kernel with a decent UI that works with Gaming/Proton AMD CPU and Nvidia GPU.

The distro choices are too expansive and I haven't had to start fresh in a new OS in 30 years.
