  • Love the ruling:

In an official ruling that has since gained legendary status among town planners for its defence of art, Michael Heseltine's planning inspector, Peter MacDonald, acknowledged that the shark was "not intended to be in harmony" with its surroundings, and addressed the council's concerns about potential "proliferation with sharks (and heaven knows what else) crashing through roofs all over the city." He wrote: This fear is exaggerated. In the five years since the shark was erected, no other examples have occurred ... any system of control must make some small place for the dynamic, the unexpected, the downright quirky. I therefore recommend that the Headington Shark be allowed to remain."

  • Interesting thought. Indeed, the person might think it's some sort of exotic bolt thrower.

But I think it's as likely they might think it's a device held to be magical. And then it all depends on how effective they expect it to be.

  • I believe Putin is between a rock and a hard place and has to take risks. There could be a coup from this. Perhaps more decentralization of force as rich people look to protect their assets and hire private mercenaries or buy the loyalty of military officers.

  • You're right, I hadn't even noticed this. My brain corrected it as I was reading without me realizing.

So, "before before Christ". Like, even before the concept of before Christ. Which brings us before time. Before the universe itself.

Copper only appeared after the beginning of the universe...

  • There are thousands of years that happened before Christ that are part of history, or in other words, writing was in use for thousands of years before Christ.

Also, not sure what's so surprising about figuring out metallurgy before using writing.
