Ways of designing intimacy in games - GameDeveloper
  • It's sad that the commenter allows his children to go cyberpsycho on virtual bystanders but won't allow them to see a nipple.

There is a reason the game has an age restriction.

Ways of designing intimacy in games - GameDeveloper
  • Having sex is probably something you will do in your life, mass murder is not.

And just as hitting several hookers in downtown los Santos with a virtual bolide won't make you a deranged carkiller, being exposed to a booby won't make you a sex-driven pervert.

Superbugs are on the rise. How can we prevent antibiotics from becoming obsolete?
  • On driving factor is the (over)use of antibiotics in animal agriculture. It's weird the article touches this issue in just one sentence...

"Over 70 percent of antibiotics sold in the United States are given to livestock, including cattle, which translates to significant human health impacts."

"Unlike with human medicine, however, antibiotics are often fed to cattle as a preventative measure, rather than as a treatment."

"Antibiotic resistance in cattle does not only affect the health of the cattle, it impacts people as well because many of the antibiotics given to cattle are also used in human medicine. Eating meat or consuming milk from an animal with antibiotic-resistant bacteria may infect a human with that same resistant bacteria"

Arson attacks at schools in Belgium are believed to be connected to a controversial sex ed program
  • Believed?

They sprayed the name of the course on the wall.

We have 99 problems in Belgium but religious nuts come out with pitchforks because their child might hear in school that being gay is not something to be ashamed of. Blessed be the fucking fruit.

The Weekly 'What are you playing?' Discussion - 17-08-2023
  • After reading a book on Roman emperors I started playing Rome 2. Because of the problematic launch I never progressed far in the campaign. It seems the game was properly patched as I'm having a blast now.

I always enjoyed Rome TW, but it lacks some core game mechanics that Rome 2 does way better: political scheming, civil war, provinces, garrison, ... I also loathed the anachronistic representation of certain cultures in Rome TW.

In short: even if it's already 10 years old, I can't recommend the game enough, certainly when you are a romanophile!

The Weekly Discussion Topic - Game UIs - 04-08-2023
  • Another issue I had with exoprimal (besides having only 3 maps and one gamemode, the mtx clusterfuck) was the UI. It was all over the place both in-game and in the menu's. No idea where to look for.

V risings build menu was tedious as well. Putting everything in one big line made finding your pieces and their variants hard.

On menu's: I don't mind a few more clicks as long as the information is found intuitively and is clearly presented. Don't try to reinvent the wheel. What I do like though is presenting them in an immersive fashion like metro exodus or an oldie: medal of honor multiplayer.

I think age of empires did a solid job of giving you the information you needed. Even as a little kid I understood what I was looking at.

  • Hi all,

I'm a bit swamped and confused on the use over a preamp, and ultimately if I need one.

I'm looking to upgrade my signal and to play without a cab occasionally. I don't really need a real booster (I get the volume I need)/overdrive as I already have these in my chain. Is there anything to recommend something under 120€ that would just fit my needs (preamps tend to be on the expensive side it seems).

For reference: I play on a supro dual tone and a fender telecaster.

    Thank you in advance.

PS: I have done some research and thought the mxr micro amp is the kind of pedal I'm looking for. However I have no idea what I'm talking about as this is really new to me.
