It doesn't look like anyone's going to complete whatever was being drawn in this area, so I figured I'd turn it into a holy Neco-Arc. If you wanna contribute, click this link and it should automatically set up the template for you :)
Glad to know I wasn't the only one, lol.
This and the way Mastodon handles likes/favorites are the biggest things holding them back right now, IMO. People don't want to bother with a social media they actually have to put in the work to curate themselves, hell the algorithm is one of the main reasons why TikTok is so successful. Also, by having favorites (which is... weird and confusing? Just call it "likes", you don't need to reinvent the wheel here). Not only do people get confused between favoriting something and bookmarking something, but since it's only counting the favorites from your instance, it makes it look like posts are getting barely any interaction, giving this "screaming into the void" feeling that will cause a lot of users to lose interest. The number of likes favorites needs to be cumulative across instances.
Aurora Store would probably be your best bet, honestly.

Some guy came in with a "That's it?" and was acting really entitled in general. I guess he was expecting the devs to give him a foot rub along with this update or whatever.
Remnant II, the much-anticipated sequel to Remnant: From the Ashes, is an even bigger and better survival action shooter from Gunfire Games.
I noticed that when browsing posts which contain a link to an MP4 file, Voyager very conveniently embeds the video in the post. This is an awesome feature and AFAIK, Liftoff and Voyager are the only Lemmy apps I've tested that do this.
Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to work well for IPFS links, even when including an .mp4 filename at the end of the URL. Doing this will allow the video to embed just fine on the Lemmy-UI web interface, but it won't carry over to the app interface.
I'm posting this as IPFS is a great option for decentralized video sharing online and it would be super nice to have it work just like any other MP4 url. I imagine it would be a simple fix, but I'm not too familiar with coding for applications, so someone else may have a better idea of what's going on under the hood that's preventing it from working. I've submitted this post with a link to an unrelated video for demonstration and testing purposes.

AUSTIN, Texas β A small plane crashed into a vacant, two-story home in Georgetown on Sunday morning.
According to the Georgetown Fire Department (GFD), the crash occurred just before noon in the 500 block of Northwood Drive.
The plane had three occupants, all of whom were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Shannon Hayes said she was walking her dog when she saw the plane crash and called 911.
"That boom, that noise that that plane was making beforehand, you knew it wasn't good," Hayes said. "Some of the neighbors ran over. Two people climbed out of the airplane onto the roof and were asking for ladders while I was on the phone with 911."
>We are now in Georgetown where a plane crashed down on this vacant house. 3 people inside the plane were sent to the hospital & NTSB is investigating. I talked to a woman who says she saw the whole thing. More at 5:30. @KVUE pic.twitter.com/UMMzdg8K1F > >β Kelsey Sanchez (@KelsSanchez) July 23, 2023
KVUE obtained audio from the air traffic control tower, which suggests the crash might have been a result of an engine failure.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has started an investigation into what caused the crash to occur. The GFD will assist in the early stages of the investigation.
KVUE reached out on Sunday to NTSB for further information. KVUE also reached out to the GFD. Fire Chief John Sullivan said there should be an update on Monday.
People were asked to avoid the area on Sunday.

AUSTIN, Texas β The Austin Police Department (APD) is investigating after an incident that resulted in an officer fatally shooting a man.
Police Chief Joseph Chacon said at 4:54 a.m. on Thursday, July 20, a 911 call came in indicating a woman was frantically knocking on the door of an apartment at the Tides at South Lamar complex, located at 3622 Menchaca Road. The caller said the woman was asking for help.
One minute later, APD officers headed to the residence, where they arrived four to five minutes later and spoke with the woman who was knocking on the door. The woman told police there was a man chasing her throughout the complex and that she feared for her life.
The officers broadcasted that a man was seen running west through the complex. Chacon said that body camera video from the responding officers showed the man had a weapon that looked like a knife.
According to Chacon, the officers ordered the man to drop the weapon before drawing their weapons and trying to de-escalate the situation.
Chacon said that the man yelled at the officers to shoot and kill him. One officer attempted to TASER the man, but it was ineffective. The officers continued to command the man to drop his weapon. A second officer then attempted to TASER the man again, but that was also ineffective, according to Chacon.
It was at this time that a third officer fired his weapon and the man went down. Life-saving measures were performed, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Chacon said that the officer who fired their weapon is now on paid administrative leave, per APD's policy. Also per APD policy, the body camera video from the responding officers will be released within 10 days, according to Chacon.
"Our officers are placed in extremely difficult situations every single day. I can tell you that these type of things happen, unfortunately, on a regular basis. And most of the time, we are able to deescalate them, get people into custody safely and with either no injury or minimal injury," Chacon said. "This is just a tragic circumstance. And we've got to take care of officers, as well as take care of the scene and the family of all involved."

Chacon said this is believed to be an isolated incident, and there is no information to indicate any danger to the public. The woman involved in the incident is safe and believed to be uninjured. It is not known if she lives at the complex.
No information is available about the man involved in this incident, and it is unclear how he and the woman knew each other.
This investigation is being conducted by APD's special investigation unit.
Today we've released a couple of improvements to the way that search works in the Steam Workshop. With this update, when you search within a game's Workshop, the results will now handle partial string matches and will organize the results to prioritize the most relevant results, taking into account ...
Didn't see this posted anywhere. As someone who spends a lot of time in the Workshop, it could definitely use some improvements when it comes to discoverability, so it's good to see Valve working towards improving things in that department.

>! > >An upcoming project by the Austinβs Transportation and Public Works Department aims to improve pedestrian and bike access along East Fifth Street as part of two planned efforts by CapMetro to double-track the Red Line rail transit network along its existing path through East Austin. The projectβs pedestrian upgrades will focus on the stretch of East Fifth Street between Navasota and Pedernales Streets, which includes the rail-adjacent Red Line Parkway trail and connections to other pedestrian networks including the MoKan Trail, Crosstown Bikeway, and EastLink Trail. > >! > >In the general area between Navasota and Pedernales Streets, the Red Line Parkway itself will be rebuilt as a combination of βshared-use paths, shared quiet streets, and sidewalks,β according to the city. The currently poor state of the street surface in this area will also be addressed as part of the project. Designs for the streetscape along East Fifth Street will vary based on available space, with the narrower sections of the plan integrating βshared streetβ features. Hereβs a look at cross-sections of the three proposed layouts for different sections of these trail improvements: > >! > >A view of rail corridor improvements planned for the stretch of East Fifth Street between Comal and Chicon Streets. As this section is the most narrow of the improvement area, a shared street design will be used to route bikes, pedestrians, and automobile traffic on the same path. > >The pedestrian and bike infrastructure through this area tends to fly a little under the radar, unless you happen to use them yourself β but with the promise of Project Connectβs future improvements to Austinβs nascent rail network, now is a great time to pursue these adjacent infrastructure upgrades. The city is currently seeking public feedback on these plans, with a virtual open house now available for your perusal. > >Of course, if you feel that our cursory overview of the plans for this area have informed you enough, you can always go ahead and fill out the cityβs survey on the project between now and Monday, August 14. It doesnβt take long to tell the city your likes and dislikes about the design seen here, and if youβve ever walked or biked in East Austin before β or perhaps would enjoy doing so if the infrastructure was more accommodating β we promise itβs worth five minutes of your time.
