A big English speaking population, it's small enough that people have a sense of national pride but still large enough to have plenty of users, and most importantly a 3 color flag that's easy to draw with no outside coordination.
it was actually a sign from someone with the username "scew" that was there before the blahaj got started. for a while the people from blahaj couldn't decide between changing it or removing it, so it went through a lot of iterations, but it seems they deleted it entirely in the end.
a shame tbh, that they picked a spot someone else had already worked in, and couldn't handle it being in the middle of their stuff.
As far as they don't destroy anything, its okay. I already feel this canvas was more inclusive of smaller arts and just continued around them ( instead of overriding them )
They destroyed multiple pieces. wrt myself, they cut off all but the chest and head of Myne from Ascendance of a Bookworm, and there was an Alolan Rapidash they tried to take too. They attempted to destroy the pride banner as well, as late as 4:30PM EST yesterday.
I thought that at first but then realized I think it’s because the communities respected each other. It’s kind of endearing that way, like we all belong here and there’s enough space for all of us.
Although, when you have millions of people in a platform it's hard to prevent playful "wars" and "games" between people which works like chain-reaction and everybody starts doing anything or streamers like XQC realizing they can make content out of this and putting their own "minions" aka viewers to make chaos.
Sometimes, some things are just not in your control.
I felt that way the whole time.... until I saw the Stardew Valley banner. 2 people altered the name by placing 2 pixels each: GrantFive@lemmy.world, and namipa@lemmy.world. I don't know why they would do that, but they did! It's a bit disappointing honestly.
