Was it my imagination that most people believed in a 9/11 conspiracy?
  • From my understanding it's pretty widely known that most intelligence agencies though something could happen but not the specifics, and chose not to act on that information or communicate with one another.

The exact reasons aren't known obviously. My gut tells me incompetence/apathy from government agencies. That's not a very cinematic or compelling answer, though, and I think a lot of people look for more interesting narratives.

Whenever a big tragedy like 9/11 happens, people tend to try and look for the Chekhov's gun that shows a deeper meaning or dramatic orchestration. That's just not real life though.

I could make a great PC for that...
  • Not only that, the Steam Deck actually has worse compatibility compared to a normal Windows PC, but the PC library is so extensive (and has so many emulators) that it doesn't matter. You still have access to more games than anyone on a normal console ever could, and you can play most singleplayer console games for free. I played Mario Odyssey all the way through on my PC and it ran great.

    It's coming for yea
  • Yes, because people in high positions of power self-select for negative personality traits that would make them more likely to distrust obvious facts if it means improving the lives of those they control.

    It's coming for yea
  • The type of person making these decisions is typically psychopathic and stubborn. 4 day work weeks may be objectively better for everyone but if it's not a common-sense productivity increaser, expect no change, at least in the US where corporate interests are extremely protected.

  • Had a Galaxy S8 and loved it. Got a Pixel 6 and now the slow fingerprint sensor is the bane of my existence. Why did they put it on the front? Why is that the standard now? It sucks, it's just slower and less ergonomic.

Israeli forces 'kill a Palestinian child every two days' in West Bank
  • In one case, a four-year-old named Ruqaya Jahalin was shot in the torso while she was in a van with her mother at a checkpoint near Beit Iksa in the central West Bank.

In another, Mahmoud Amjad Ismail Hamadneh, 15, was shot in the head, torso and limbs by an Israeli sniper while riding his bike home from school in Jenin.

In all cases documented in the report, the DCIP emphasised that the children posed “no imminent threat” and that there was no evidence that Israeli forces issued warnings prior to firing.

Anyone who defends Israel's actions at this point is being complicit in this and I hope they understand that. No Hamas in the West Bank, what's their justification for this?

  • I'm still using the 6 (regular) until it's truly end of life, then if I don't like what's on offer I might just keep using LineageOS or something. I'm trying to reduce my reliance on Play Services right now so this is a long-term goal for me lol. Right now the 9 just turns me off with the half-baked AI garbage. Plus I don't really want to drop a ton of money on a phone, now or in general.

  • Steam has an effective monopoly on open, marketplace-style launchers. EGS is their only real competitor and everyone hates it. GOG is years behind the curve and Amazon's launcher barely exists. At this point in time, Steam is hardly considered third-party since it's so ubiquitous.

Thinking about this because of a greentext I saw earlier complaining about OF models.

It feels like a lot of the stigma surrounding sex work in the modern day (that doesn't just boil down to misogyny/gender norms/religion) is based on the fact that selling intimate aspects of one's self places a set value on something that many see as sacred; something that shouldn't have monetary value.

Not to say anything about the economic validity of a society without currency, but I think that, hypothetically, if that were to exist, sex work would be less stigmatized since this would no longer be a factor. Those engaged in sex work would be more likely to be seen as doing it because it's something they are good at/enjoy, and less because it's an "easy" way to make money, as some think. It would also eliminate the fear of placing set value on social, non sex-work related intimacy (not that those fears were well-founded to begin with).
