Between January 10 and January 12, after being warned that an EV rebate program was running out of funds, Tesla dealerships in Canada managed to claim 8,669 individual iZEV EV rebates, or about $43 million CAD in incentives. That’s a staggering number of sales to log in a single weekend. Meanwhile, ...

Came in here to mention hand tools. Japanese tools are outrageously durable.
Tesla Claimed 8,669 Canadian EV Rebates as the Program Ran Out of Funds… That’s 1.5 Sales Per Minute

People who don't threaten physical violence often... you know, softies, the part-time tough guys... they don't anticipate how long-lasting the negative reaction from their victims will be.
The annexation talk, the 51st state talk, none of that stuff will be directly linked to whatever counterpunch Canada cooks up, but it'll be hardening the hearts of the Canadian voters to be in favor of ever-more-draconian countermeasures.
I hope those Twitter threats felt great to issue, because we'll all be paying for those for a good long while on every agricultural transaction (among others!) that we make with our closest ally in the coming decades.

Ope, shit, I jumped the gun. My bad!

I'm just a journalist/comedian :) I got no dog in this fight, other than that the appearance of corruption in public programs is newsworthy.
If I'm ever unfairly positive about Tesla, do let me know. Most Tesla fans (and assorted grifters who grift in the same circles) say I'm actually the opposite, that I'm shield-biting Tesla hater, probably a paid Anti-Elon shill and maybe a $TSLA shortseller. They feel that way enough to send me threats from time to time. Neither take is true, but it's funny that I'm getting shot at by both sides.
If you find my stories interesting, you can do me a solid by sharing them on any subreddit or Fedia instance that you think would find them interesting. This publication is a couple weeks old, and that helps me get traction, it's wild that this story is only getting coverage by Canadian outlets.

Powerful Crassus energy to this one.

So, the data has a "commercial" or "consumer" flag, Canada is apparently quite sensible and thought one step ahead of the shady things auto dealers might try - so we'd be able to see if it was a wholesale sort of deal, I think.
It wasn't, all the sales I saw were consumer flagged.
Tesla Claimed 8,669 Canadian EV Rebates as the Program Ran Out of Funds… That’s 1.5 Sales Per Minute

Canadian government thought of that. The sales are marked as either personal or commercial in the database. All the sales I saw were personal.

They seem to have a hard time avoiding stationary objects, like poles and trees.
I wonder how well they'll do in highly dynamic environments, like pedestrian crosswalks with bike lanes?

Since 2021, the NHTSA has required the manufacturers of self-driving systems to report crashes involving their technologies. This policy is part of the Standing General Order on Crash Reporting, designed to track real-world safety data and hold companies accountable for their self-driving systems.
This reporting offers helpful insight into how self-driving technology behaves in real-world conditions. However, as I began to review the NHTSA self-driving crash data for myself, I noticed something strange:
Tesla has requested a redaction on every crash report involving their self-driving technology.
Here's what we found when we dug into the data to see what was behind the redactions.

Right? I don't buy that explanation at all. I've had a bunch of cars with SXM, none of them had popup ads every time I came to a red light.

Popup Ads in Your Jeep: The Latest Stellantis Innovation
In covering car news, I will sometimes look at a new piece of technology and do a double take. “That can’t be real, it is simply too stupid for a room of automotive engineers to have signed off on it.” Often times, those pieces of tech are on Stellantis vehicles. Here’s a winner that I […]

Here’s a winner that I had to confirm was real (spoilers, it is real). Popup ads in your car… for the Mopar extended warranty service.
Take a look, it’s the whole bleeping infotainment screen, every time you stop.

A clowny, amateurish effort. Deserving of twice the mockery it receives, and it gets a LOT of mockery. I'm a comedian and I hardly need to think, the Cybertruck comedy writes itself.
The fact that it made production at all shows major issues in Tesla's corporate decision-making process that a rationally administered board would take steps to address.

That vehicle looks SILLY, love it. I'll review it once it's test-drive ready!

No worries.
Honestly, I ALSO dig bold design decisions. People hate the Subaru Baja. Puts a smile on my face every time I see one, it's a wacky little truck that makes very little sense.
The Cybertruck... it's almost hard to explain why it gets such an intense reaction. It's Elon. It's the dangerous design (like, the fires are absurd for any vehicles built in the 21st century). It's how many promises fell through, like the bullet-proof windows not actually being bullet-proof, the "exoskeleton" is literally held on by glue, it's a lousy unibody truck by any measure. Oh and it costs a bazillion dollars.
Maybe most of all, it's the Cybertruck fans. They live in some alternate reality where all that stuff just isn't true. To them, it is a badass truck, it is bullet-proof, not only is it not a lousy vehicle, it's the best vehicle ever made. Forget the observable reality of how unpopular it is, they swear it will sell more than the F-150 (probably because Elon said it would). That really makes it impossible for me to like, I don't like the way drinking THAT flavor of Kool Aid tastes.

"You're telling me there's no market for an ugly $130,000 pickup truck that randomly explodes?" - the world's most knowledgeable manufacturer*
*self-proclaimed, YMMV.

Updated: 1,240+ Cybertrucks Sit in Tesla Inventory... And That's Just in the Top 25 Metros
Update: We had such a good time counting the first 10 metros, we expanded our Cybertruck inventory lot census to 25 metros, current as of March 5th 2025. That brought the total number of inventoried Cybertrucks from 450+ to 1,240+. Have fun! Tesla’s Cybertruck, once touted as “the World’s Toughest T...
Tesla’s Cybertruck, once touted as “the World’s Toughest Truck,” now seems to be gathering rust in inventories across major U.S. metropolitan areas.
A recent count reveals that within 25 miles of some of the top 25 most populous zip codes, a staggering 1,246 Cybertrucks remain in unsold inventory. The total count nationwide of Cybertrucks waiting on a buyer is likely much higher, as these 25 mile segments only account for about half of the US population.
If each Cybertruck sells at the minimum price of $79,990, that’s about $100 million worth of what Ask Car Guys voted overwhelmingly for the Worst Truck Ever Made.
Here’s the data!

You need to log in to view Reddit videos? SHIT. I did not realize that.
Give me a minute, I'll swap that out, now I feel like a dick, I thought Reddit was just an easy way to host videos.
Arghhh, that actually really jams me up, I link a TON of Reddit videos in my articles, didn't think to check while not logged into Reddit. Welcome to the future, where every piece of technology fucking blows.

How a Video Game is Teaching Firefighters to Handle EV Fires

With the rapidly expanding number of EVs on the road, public services are adapting. New charging stations are popping up, public-private partnerships are growing (like Rivian and the State of Illinois teaming up), and first responders are adapting to the new challenges presented by fast-moving techn...

We saw an interesting press release from the National Fire Protection Association, they released an EV firefighting video game for free with the help of a private developer and a Department of Energy grant. So far, more than a million firefighters have used the game to learn about fighting EV fires.
Well, that pitch was irresistible to us. We wanted to know more about how EVs work in emergencies, and we get to play video games to do it? Awesome, count me in, let the games begin. Here's how the game plays and what we learned from it.
